Mixed opinions: Leeds fans offer views on potential swap involving Dwight Gayle

[ad_pod ]

According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle United’s interest in Leeds United pair Kalvin Phillips and Jack Clarke could lead to the Whites moving for Dwight Gayle.

Gayle scored 24 Championship goals whilst on loan at West Bromwich Albion during the 2018-19 campaign but will return to parent club Newcastle this summer.

Indeed, West Brom cannot afford to pay Gayle’s £55,000-a-week wages.

TEAMtalk have claimed that Leeds will also struggle to meet the centre-forward’s wage demands after failing to earn promotion to the Premier League.

The same report has claimed that Newcastle’s interest in Phillips and Clarke could see something ‘arranged’, although it goes on to say that Gayle’s wage demands would still be a ‘stumbling block’.

Thogden has ranked his top 5 sets of Championship away fans for Pl>ymaker FC. Did your club make the list? Find out in the video below…

Nonetheless, the Leeds fans have been on social media discussing a potential swap.

And it would be fair to say that a number have differing opinions on whether it would be a good deal for the club.

Needs to be sold: Tottenham fans slam Kieran Trippier once again

[ad_pod ]

Ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Ajax, a number of Tottenham Hotspur fans criticised right-back Kieran Trippier.

Indeed, a host said that they did not want the defender to make the trip to Amsterdam.

The England international was ultimately named in the XI, but struggled once again before being replaced in the latter stages.

In the end, the fact that Trippier had a few nervy moments mattered little as Lucas Moura scored an incredible hat-trick to send Tottenham into the final of the competition.

Italian giants Napoli continue to be linked with a summer move for the former Manchester City youngster, who starred as England reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.

It is very difficult to see a way back for Trippier when it comes to regaining the trust of the Tottenham fans, who have slammed him on social media once again.

The Chalkboard: James Shan’s flexibility can prove key for West Brom

[ad_pod ]

Under James Shan, West Brom are finally finding some momentum. Their displays may not be pretty, but it could be something that gives them a greater chance of triumphing in the play-offs.

Their performance against Rotherham, for the most part, was poor. They went into the break 1-0 down against a side who were facing relegation.

But cue the substitutions. With players back from injury the Baggies now have a much stronger squad and as such, it proved pivotal last weekend with the individuals they brought on.

In the past there haven’t been too many options to turn to on the bench, but ahead of what is now the most vital point of the season, that isn’t an issue. It’s a factor that’s also allowing Shan to show his tactical flexibility.

On the chalkboard

This was the XI that finished the match against Rotherham last Saturday. There are three changes from the team that started the game. Jacob Murphy came on in place of Mason Holgate, whilst Matt Phillips and Hal Robson-Kanu replaced Stefan Johansen and Jay Rodriguez.

Robson-Kanu entered the fray with just four minutes left so didn’t make an impact, but the other two certainly did, with the attacking changes proving vital in West Brom going onto win the game.

It showed Shan’s ability to adapt and going into the play-offs this will be imperative. Phillips’ return in recent weeks has been timely and his versatility has seen him play at wing back and also in central midfield under the new manager.

Featuring in a more advanced central role than Johansen when he came on, it saw a slight change of system which helped inject more penetration and pace into Albion’s midfield.

Was Darren Moore’s sacking unfair? The Pl>ymaker FC squad name which Championship bosses should have gone instead in the video below…

All good managers are flexible and possess plan Bs and the way Shan was able to change the game with substitutions last weekend is evidence of this.

With the versatility Murphy and Phillips bring it can also give Shan the ability to change formation entirely if he wanted to.

Should things not be going to plan, then the added attacking quality they can bring from either a wing back role or as out-and-out wingers will be game changing in the play-offs.

Took us apart: West Ham fans are desperate for Andre Gomes arrival

[ad_pod ]

The Times have published a story claiming that West Ham United have made an £18m bid for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes.

And a number of the London club’s fans are desperate for their club to complete a summer swoop for the Portugal international.

Gomes spent the 2018-19 campaign on loan at Everton but as it stands will return to Barcelona for the start of pre-season.

It would be a surprise if the midfielder remained with the Spanish champions beyond the end of this summer’s transfer deadline, though.

According to The Times, West Ham have launched a £18m offer but that is only half of what Barcelona want for the former Valencia ace.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this story unfolds, with both Premier League outfits seemingly intent on securing his services.

And a number of West Ham fans are keen for their side to bring the 6 ft 2 ace to the English capital – a selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:

Sunderland: Despite play-off pain Jack Ross is still Donald’s best find at the club

The pain of today’s play-off defeat will linger for a long time. We know that, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise. Two Wembley defeats and a 5th placed finish this season have been incredibly tough to stomach for the Black Cats, but here we are. The Mackems now need to look forward, and they need to keep Ross on-board as they look forward.

Jack Ross may come in for a lot of stick over the next couple of days as the Sunderland supporters come to terms with the fact that they’ll be travelling to face Lincoln, Tranmere, MK Dons and Bury away next season, but the Scottish gaffer is the man for the job. Just because his side has been unable to convert their chances at Wembley this season doesn’t mean he’s not fit for the job.

When Stewart Donald sits down with the board and looks ahead to the 2019/20 season he simply cannot afford to try and go it in the new season without Ross in charge. The entire club has been in transition this season and considering how close they’ve come to making a swift return to the Championship, now they’ve got one more year of experience and another two transfer windows to prepare, promotion is much more likely.

It won’t be easy to go into next season and until next May there will be a lot of heartache and regret about today from the Black Cats. Those that stayed in Sunderland and watched the game on TV and those who made the 540-mile roundtrip from the Northeast to the capital will struggle next season in the third tier again, but no rash moves can be made just yet.

He is coming: Tottenham fans react to Ryan Sessegnon’s Twitter post

[ad_pod ]A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans think that Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon might have confirmed that he will be heading to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

Sessegnon took to social media in the immediate aftermath of Spurs’ incredible 3-2 win over Ajax on Wednesday night, which saw the capital outfit book their spot in the Champions League final.

The Englishman seemed absolutely delighted at what had occurred in Amsterdam, which led a number of Tottenham supporters to draw their own conclusions.

To be fair, Sessegnon has been linked with a switch to Mauricio Pochettino’s team for some time.

And it would not be that much of a surprise if the 18-year-old did leave Craven Cottage to move across London when this summer’s transfer window opens for business.

It might have been just an innocent post from Sessegnon after what was a remarkable night of football, but the Spurs fans think they know what could be on the horizon.

The Chalkboard: Rob Edwards is laying foundations for bright Wolves future

[ad_pod ]

In all facets of the club, it appears as though Wolves can do no wrong.

At senior level they finished seventh in the league whilst lower down, Rob Edwards’ U23 side won the Premier League 2 Division 2 title.

It’s been a fantastic campaign right the way through the club and it’s now time for them to build on that success.

A way of doing so would be to bring through some of the best performers at youth level and should they do so, they can be assured of a smooth transition, such has been the good work Edwards has done.

On the chalkboard

The 36-year-old is a figure who seems to have done everything at Wolves. He’s been a player at Molineux, coached the first team on an interim basis and now lead the academy to domestic success.

He’s a hugely respected figure so it’s no surprise to see the young members of the club looking up to him in the way they have.

And the way he’s set up his team in 2018/19 is something that will benefit any transition into the senior team greatly.

Initially, Edwards deployed a four-man back line, but given Nuno Santo sets his team up with three in defence it didn’t make too much sense.

So after four games of the Premier League 2 campaign, he switched things to mirror what the first team have been doing.

It was a genius decision and since that moment, it appears as though they’ve reaped the rewards. The likes of Max Kilman and Ryan Giles are two members of his squad to have benefited the most, appearing in the first team on a few occasions this term.

They’ve featured in a variety of different positions, including at left-wing back, an area that initially wasn’t in Edwards’ plans when the campaign first got underway.

Their transition into the first team has been seamless because of their experience in a recognised system. Edwards deserves a huge amount of praise for that, and in the long-term, the more youngsters are familiarised with the first-team’s system, the greater chance they’ll have of making it at Molineux.

I want him gone: Tottenham fans slam Kieran Trippier ahead of Ajax clash

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier has attempted to raise the spirits of the club’s supporters ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Ajax in Amsterdam.

However, Trippier’s words have seemingly fallen on deaf ears, with Spurs fans instead taking to social media to have a pop at the England international.

It would be fair to say that the defender has struggled for consistency this season, and there is certainly a chance that he could be on the move this summer.

Tottenham head into the second leg of their semi-final trailing 1-0 from the reverse fixture against a brilliant Ajax last week.

Trippier, who is valued at £31.5 million by Transfermarkt, has insisted that Spurs can secure the result that they need to progress to the final, but the fans seemingly do not want the former Manchester City youngster to play any part in Amsterdam.
