Everton transfer news on Gini Wijnaldum

Lots of Everton fans have been lauding a transfer link to former Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum.

As per a report from earlier in the week by 90min, which has since been shared by EFC Daily on their Twitter feed, Rafael Benitez is now ready to battle his former club Newcastle United to sign the Paris Saint-Germain player, of whom he is a ‘big fan’.

Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Leicester City and Aston Villa are other Premier League clubs believed to be interested in signing Wijnaldum in the January transfer window, should he be made available by the Ligue 1 leaders.

Even though he is a former Liverpool player, the Netherlands international would likely improve Benitez’s team given his pedigree in the game, having won both the Premier League and Champions League with the Reds and earned 85 caps for his country.

He has shown that he is more than capable of adding goals and assists from midfield in the English top flight, with 43 such contributions in 217 games in the division (Transfermarkt), and he could be a very shrewd addition at Goodison Park.

West Ham refuse to rule out Wijnaldum

As per 90min, a shock transfer claim has come out of West Ham United involving former Liverpool star and Paris-Saint Germain midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Lowdown: Agents approach Moyes…

As confirmed by the boss himself, agents have already been attempting to offer their top players to both manager David Moyes and West Ham United (football.london).

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-updates/” title=”West Ham latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Scotsman’s candid admission in a recent press conference perhaps exemplifies his side’s season so far and how they’re continuing to defy expectation, with West Ham currently still fighting on all fronts.

As the January window looms, the Hammers’ top priorities appear to be an emergency centre-half and the continued pursuit of a back-up striker to Michail Antonio (The Daily Mail).

However, that hasn’t stopped them from being tipped to bolster their midfield too, with 90min now sharing some surprise news.

The Latest: West Ham approached over Wijnaldum…

As per the outlet and reporter Graeme Bailey, West Ham and Moyes have been ‘approached’ by representatives of PSG player Wijnaldum just months after his move to the Parc des Princes from Liverpool.

His agents are apparently ‘working on finding him a potential loan move in the new year’ with West Ham among those to have been offered the 31-year-old alongside ‘more than half the Premier League’.

The Irons’ stance is not yet clear as they have allegedly refused to rule out the possibility of signing him temporarily in January.

The Verdict: Get it done?

Capable of playing further forward in the attacking midfield positions, Wijnaldum is arguably proven in the English top flight and could come as a cheaper alternative to target Jesse Lingard – especially on loan.

The 85-cap ace, called ‘sensational’ by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, has scored an impressive 26 goals over those appearances for the Netherlands – potentially highlighting his threat going forward.

Despite playing a bit-part role under Mauricio Pochettino this season, he’s still managed to make his mark in the Champions League group stages with two goals, all while averaging an impressive 91% pass accuracy in midfield – more than any West Ham regular domestically with over two starts (WhoScored).

The only big caveat could be his reported £165,000-per-week wages, over £40,000 more than what West Ham’s current highest earner, Kurt Zouma, is taking home (spotrac).

Asif ruled out of New Zealand series

The PCB clarified that Mohammad Asif will not be travelling with the team to Abu Dhabi and Dubai for the series against New Zealand in November

Mohammad Asif is not allowed to go to the UAE•AFP

Mohammad Asif’s return to international cricket will be temporarily derailed as the Pakistan board clarified that he will not be travelling with the team to Abu Dhabi and Dubai for the ODI and Twenty20 series against New Zealand in November.Asif was deported from the UAE last year, having spent 19 days in detention at Dubai Airport, after he was found to be in possession of a small amount of opium. Though criminal charges were not pressed – reportedly after high-level contacts between the government of Pakistan and the UAE monarchy – the court order called for his immediate deportation and banned him from entering the UAE until further notice. The PCB had been trying to clarify what the situation was now that Asif is once again available for selection – following completion of a year-long ban for another doping offense last year – but has been told by authorities that he is not allowed back in. “Asif cannot play in the UAE,” Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, said. “We checked with authorities in UAE what his position was and we can confirm that he cannot play there. If he goes there he will be arrested.”The situation leaves Pakistan in a quandary: following terrorist attacks on the Sri Lankan team in March this year, international cricket is unlikely to return to Pakistan till 2011. Till that time, it is likely Pakistan will play a number of ‘home’ series at neutral venues in the UAE. For the time being, however, they will have to make do without the services of one of their leading fast bowlers.

Younis could come out of Twenty20 retirement

Younis Khan, Pakistan’s Test and ODI captain, has said he could return to playing Twenty20 internationals

Cricinfo staff28-Oct-2009Younis Khan, Pakistan’s Test and ODI captain, has hinted that he could return to Twenty20 cricket despite having retired from the format after leading his team to the world title in England in June this year.In a television interview with , Younis nudged the door open for a possible return to a format he thought he was too old for. “If my fellow players accept me and the nation wants me to,” Younis said, “I will come back to playing Twenty20 internationals.”Younis had announced his retirement at a press conference right after Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by eight wickets at Lord’s to win the final. Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, had said at the time that he would try and get Younis to change his mind though Pakistan seemed to have moved past that by appointing Afridi as the Twenty20 captain.Afridi led Pakistan to a Twenty20 win against Sri Lanka in the summer and will lead them in internationals against New Zealand and Australia, before spearheading Pakistan’s defence of the world title in April next year in the West Indies. And responding to Younis, Afridi, on the same show a night later, said Younis was “more than welcome” to return and would even “step down from the captaincy and play under Younis Khan”.Younis had recently resigned as Pakistan captain from all formats following allegations of match-fixing during the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa and murmurs about factions in the team and management working to undermine him. The Pakistan board, however, rejected the resignation and Butt came out in support of Younis, who then said he was happy to take back the captaincy after certain conditions were met.Afridi again denied reports of a rift with Younis but did confirm that some other players had problems with Younis after the Champions Trophy, which were now resolved. “The players informed me about their problems,” Afridi said. “I told them it was better if they directly communicate their problems to Younis, an idea which they didn’t like.”Afridi said he had already informed both Younis and the PCB chairman about the players’ problems and he hoped in future there will be no communication gap between team players and the captain. “The problem with our players is they don’t speak their heart out and that’s where the communication gap comes in,” Afridi saidYounis has played 22 Twenty20 internationals, scoring 432 runs at an average of 25.41 with a strike rate of 124.85. Pakistan’s next Twenty20 assignment is two matches against New Zealand in Dubai in November.

Newcastle transfer news on Ramsey

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) Public Investment Fund (PIF) are now reportedly ‘ready to spend’ to bring Aaron Ramsey to Newcastle United.

The Lowdown: Midfield targeted

Given that the likes of Florian Wirtz and James Ward-Prowse have been linked with a move to St. James’ Park over the last few days, it is clear that the new owners are looking to strengthen the midfield position.

New players will certainly need to be brought in in the January transfer window, given that the North East club are currently in a relegation battle, sitting in 19th spot in the Premier League table before today’s round of fixtures.

The Latest: Ramsey ‘courted’

As per Tuttosport (via Sport Witness), Ramsey is being ‘courted’ by the Tyneside outfit ahead of a potential move.

PIF are now ‘ready to spend’ on the Juventus midfield player, despite his €14m (£11.8m) yearly wages.

They are ‘not scared’ to pay his salary, and the Old Lady are ‘keen’ to get them off of their books, meaning that a move back to the top flight, and more specifically the Magpies, is now possible.

The Verdict: Avoid

While money is no object to the new owners, Ramsey is a player that they should be avoiding.

Even if they are willing to pay his astronomical wages, it would lead to other players in the squad wanting their pay package to go up, which could leave them in a sticky situation.

Wales international teammate Joe Allen claims that he can be ‘world-class’ on his day, and that is true, given his goals and assists record throughout his club career, but he is 30 years of age now, and has been suffering with injury problems as of late.

Nonetheless, the Toon already have plenty of midfield options in the squad already, and thus should be focusing on strengthening other areas of the pitch first of all, and certainly not splashing out big wages on an injury-prone player in his thirties.

Yarmolenko’s value crashes at West Ham

West Ham have endured a transfer nightmare with Andriy Yarmolenko.

The 30-year-old has arguably been one of the Irons’ biggest-ever disappointments, having signed in an £18m deal from Borussia Dortmund in July 2018.

Other big-money duds like Sebastian Haller and Felipe Anderson have already been and gone, but it’s the Ukraine veteran that still remains at the London Stadium.

Across the last three-and-a-bit years, the 31-year-old has only been able to record 63 appearances, in which he has delivered ten goals and six assists, via Transfermarkt.

Yarmolenko started just one Premier League game in 2020/21 and is yet to be granted more than a late cameo in the English top-flight this term. It’s just not what you need from one of your highest-paid players.

It’s thought that the versatile 6 foot 2 forward is earning around £115k-per-week in east London, which was more than anyone else before the arrival of World Cup and Champions League winner Kurt Zouma, who is only earning £5k-per-week more, as per Spotrac.

The Hammers have even been said to have been ‘sorry’ for paying so much for the Ukraine international, which speaks volumes itself.

He is now valued at just €4m (£3.6m) by CIES Football Observatory and that’s hardly a surprise given his lack of game time and quality on the pitch over the past three seasons.

That’s a drastic decrease of 81% for a player that should be in the prime of his career.

By comparison, Jamie Vardy is still doing the business for Leicester City at 34, not to mention Cristiano Ronaldo, who will soon turn 37, and of course, Thiago Silva’s impact at Chelsea, aged 37, cannot be understated.

Once dubbed “special” by teammate Declan Rice, the Hammers’ hierarchy tried to offload Yarmolenko in the summer but that failed to garner much success and that’s no wonder given his decrease in transfer value.

Yarmolenko has been nothing short of a nightmare situation for the club’s owners, GSB. They can count their lucky stars that he’s out of contract at the end of the season, it seems unlikely that anyone will pay a fee for him this January.

West Ham fans love Coufal photos

A number of West Ham supporters are delighted after Vladimir Coufal was pictured back in training ahead of the Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

The Hammers are back in league action on Sunday afternoon, travelling to the Midlands to face Dean Smith’s side.

David Moyes’ team sit fourth in the table going into the match knowing that victory would take them level on points with champions Manchester City.

One player who looks set to be available for the hosts is Coufal, with the right-back pictured in training in a tweet shared by the club’s official Twitter account on Saturday.

The Czech Republic international has had injury problems of late, not playing in the league since the defeat to Brentford on October 3. He had been an ever-present up to then and illustrated his importance to the side by winning 2.1 tackles per game, the third-highest average in the Irons’ squad.

Caso o venezuelano não tenha lesão, a escalação é: Jailson; Mayke, Mina, Luan e Egídio; Bruno Henrique, Jean e Guerra (Thiago Santos); Róger Guedes, Dudu e Deyverson.

No caso o Thiago (Santos).
