Tuskers, Rhinos post wins

After Mashonaland Eagles were bowled out for 182, half-centuries from Vusi Sibanda and Jaik Mickleburgh helped Mid West Rhinos win by four wickets at the Kwekwe Sports Club. Spinners Malcolm Waller and Graeme Cremer, who also effected two run outs, didn’t allow Eagles to build big partnerships as the opening stand of 40 was their highest of the innings. A confident chase, led by a second-wicket stand of 109 runs between Sibanda and Mickleburgh effectively sealed the contest. After being put in to bat, Eagles started positively through their openers, but from 71 for one, they slipped to 80 for four, and kept losing wickets regularly thereafter. A lower order defiance was led by Ray Price, but they failed to cross the 200-run mark, being bowled out in the 48th over. The Eagles, however, made a positive start in the following innings when Rhinos’ captain, opener and wicketkeeper Brendan Taylor was run out for 10 in the fifth over. After the ensuing Sibanda-Mickleburgh partnership, which ended in the 28th over with Sibanda’s dismissal, Rhinos suffered a minor collapse. Mickleburgh had stuck around for long to score 73 and secure their victory. When he departed with the score at 160 for five, 23 more runs were needed, which were scored in 56 deliveries and the loss of a wicket. At the Masingvo Sports Club, a four-wicket haul by Chris Mpofu overshadowed Curthbert Musoko’s four-wicket haul as it helped Matabeleland Tuskers defeat Southern Rocks by nine runs in a rain-shortened game. Tuskers’ Keegan Meth scored 36 turned out to be highest in the low-scoring game.Chasing 141 in 31 overs, the Rocks fell into trouble early with the wicket of opener Kudzai Monze in the fourth over. Although half their side was out for 70 in the 21st over, a middle-order resurgence, led by Peter Burgoyne Tawanda Mupariwa helped them get close to the target. But Mpofu’s timely wickets pegged them back. With 23 needed off the final two overs, Rocks lost two wickets and fell nine runs short to end the game at 131 for nine. With five single-digit scores and two ducks, Tuskers’ innings also stuttered to reach 140 for nine. Two partnerships proved to be the bedrock of their innings – a 28 run stand for the fifth wicket after they were in trouble at 32 for four, and a quick 50-run partnership in 6.2 overs between Meth and Glen Querl that pushed them towards a total that they could defend.

Leeds ace Jamie Shackleton filmed starting chants at Old Trafford

Leeds United’s fanbase is unlike any other set of supporters in England. How many other clubs do you know that would take 1,400 supporters to an U18s away game on a Wednesday night? There may be a handful of clubs that would take that many fans to watch a youth team game, but there aren’t many that would have had a senior player in and amongst the supporters orchestrating the noise.

However, that’s exactly what happened at Old Trafford on Monday as Jamie Shackleton was filmed kickstarting a ‘we are Leeds’ chant as the U18s faced off against Manchester United.

The young midfielder may be a first-team regular, appearing 29 times in the league for the Whites, but he’s a Leeds fan first and foremost.

It’s great to see that a player still has an undying passion for the club, as it’s very easy to lose sight of what made you fall in love with football when it’s your full-time job.

Tottenham fans react after Harry Kane is ruled out until March with ankle injury

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham fans are sweating over their chances of silverware this season following the news that their talisman, Harry Kane, will be out of action until at least early March after damaging ankle ligaments in the 1-0 loss to Manchester United.

The 25-year-old is scheduled for a return to training at the beginning of March, but his absence will have a serious impact on Spurs’ chances of a trophy – Kane will miss vital cup games in all of the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

The England international and World Cup Golden Boot winner will have to sit out both legs of the Champions League last 16 tie against Borussia Dortmund, the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea, and the FA Cup fourth round tie against Crystal Palace – he may also miss the Carabao Cup final if Spurs make it.

Naturally, Spurs fans are petrified about what the next few months behold…

Tottenham fans react to latest de Ligt reports

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Tottenham fans have been reacting to the latest transfer news, as reports claim they actually had a bid rejected for the highly-rated defender Matthijs de Ligt.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are now in the driver’s seat to wrap up a deal for de Ligt, but Tottenham did have a €50m (worth around £44m currently) bid rejected during the summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old Ajax centre back has drawn suitors from all over Europe due to his incredible composure and leadership at such a young age, and Spurs were heavily linked with a summer move.

While fans were understandably frustrated by their lack of summer business, it seems Daniel Levy was working hard to bring in the Dutch wonderkid, perhaps even working on the assumption that Toby Alderweireld would leave the club.

Alderweireld has looked back to his old self this season, but it remains to be seen if the big Belgian will sign a new contract in North London.

De Ligt looks like the perfect replacement if Alderweireld does leave, but Levy will have to up the bid quite considerably to beat out Barcelona.

Plenty of fans have been giving their verdict on the reports, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Revealed: 69% of fans feel Chelsea benefit most from Martial and Willian swap

Willian was the only Chelsea player who maintained his standards during the disastrous 2015/16 season that saw Jose Mourinho sacked before Christmas and Manchester United’s long-running interest in the Brazilian winger suggests that the Portuguese has not forgotten that in a hurry.

Barcelona’s signing of Malcom from under the noses of Roma has reportedly left the coast clear for Mourinho to reunite with his former charge at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Anthony Martial is reportedly surplus to requirements at United since Alexis Sanchez came in mid-season and shunted him down the pecking order.

Furthermore, he is apparently willing to defy Mourinho’s wishes to sell him to a foreign club by remaining in the Premier League, which serves to offer the Blues encouragement.

So, we suggested that a straight swap deal between the two widemen would make sense but asked which club would benefit the most from that arrangement.

69 per cent of those who responded said that it would be a better deal for Maurizio Sarri than Mourinho, as shown by the full results below…

Sanchez posts mysterious messages on Instagram

Alexis Sanchez had been linked with a move away from Arsenal all summer, but after the transfer deadline passed at 11pm last Thursday, the Chilean was still at the club.

An impasse in contract talks was reached in the early stages of the 2016-17 campaign, suggesting that the 28-year-old was looking for a new challenge.

On the final day of the summer window, Manchester City lodged a £60m offer, which according to The Mirror, was accepted.

However, it seems that the deal was scuppered after the Gunners failed to land the signature of Monaco star Thomas Lemar.

Goal.com reported that Sanchez was furious that the transfer did not go ahead, and that he is considering going on strike until he can leave the club in January.

The former Barcelona star has not spoken directly about the collapsed move, but he posted some cryptic messages on social media while on international duty with Chile.

According to Goal.com, Sanchez posted four separate quotes on an Instagram story.

“When the world reminds you of your defeats, remind them of your unforgettable victories.”

“A winner is just a loser who tries more than once.”

“What you do matters, but the reason you do it matters much more.”

“You will realise that what today seems like a sacrifice, will end up being the greatest achievement of your life.”

Unless the forward signs a new contract, he will be allowed to leave Arsenal as a free agent at the end of the season.

Fans split over Eric Bailly’s sending-off

Manchester United fans had differing views on Eric Bailly’s sending-off in Wednesday night’s Europa League last-32 second leg against St Etienne in France.

It was a comfortable evening for Jose Mourinho’s side as they earned a 4-0 win on aggregate, which secured their progression into the last-16 stage.

The downsides were that Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Michael Carrick suffered injuries, which puts them in doubt for Sunday’s EFL Cup final, and Bailly was given his marching orders.

The defender picked up two yellow cards in less than five minutes in the second half, which meant that United had to finish the game with 10 men.

[ad_pod id=’now-tv’ align=’centre’]

Bailly will now miss the first leg of his team’s last-16 tie, and because the first yellow he received triggered a one-game ban, he will need to be careful when he returns for the second leg.

According to the Europa League rulebook if the centre-back gets cautioned upon his return then he will be hit with another suspension.

After the incident, fans took to Twitter to give their thoughts, with some criticising Bailly for the challenge, while others thought that he was unfairly punished.
