Man United fans excited to play Leeds next season

Manchester United are set for a nail-biting end to the season as their hunt for a Champions League spot looks likely to be settled on the final day when they clash with Leicester City for the right to play in Europe’s top competition next term.

However, despite the final few weeks of the season looking set to be incredibly exciting for the Red Devils, some supporters are already getting excited about next season, in particular one fixture that has now been set up.

Leeds United have finally had their promotion to the Premier League confirmed, and that has added an extra element to the division next term.

The Yorkshire outfit are historically one of England’s biggest clubs, and throughout their history, they’ve forged great rivalries with a multitude of other sides, including Manchester United.

With only the Pennines separating the two cities, the close proximity between the two teams has led to some bad blood between the two fanbases, and a number of United fans are excited to re-ignite the rivalry.

While some quipped that they’d actually missed Leeds, others weren’t so kind about the Whites.

Indeed, some fans’ only view on the matter is that the sooner they’re back down in the Championship the better.

While close rivalries are all well and good, Manchester United have enough on their plate already with Liverpool and Man City being the two best teams in the country, so you can understand why they want to be able to ridicule Leeds rather than compete with them.

Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs ready to make ‘enticing’ offer to Ryan Fraser; may benefit Son Heung-min

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to make Ryan Fraser an ‘enticing’ offer to move to north London, according to Football Insider.

Tottenham are locked in a battle with bitter rivals Arsenal to sign Fraser this summer, as his contract with Bournemouth is set to expire at the end of June.

A source told Football Insider that the Lilywhites are prepared to offer the Cherries star a lucrative deal after Jose Mourinho identified him on his shortlist of transfer targets.

Earlier this month, the Daily Star reported that Spurs are the frontrunners to sign the Scottish winger, and this move could benefit Son Heung-min in the long run.

While it is fair to say that the Scotsman has struggled for consistency in this campaign, as he has returned just one goal and four assists so far, it is worth remembering that he scored seven goals and created 14 assists in the Premier League last season, beaten only by former Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard for the latter metric. Also, he seems a tremendously reliable player given that he last picked up an injury all the way back in 2015.

In comparison, Son is Tottenham’s second-highest goalscorer this season, just one goal behind Harry Kane, while he has provided more assists than the club captain up until now. Furthermore, the South Korean international has bagged nine goals and produced seven assists in the English top flight, registering three shots per game, averaging more than one key pass and completing at least two dribbles per match on average (via WhoScored).

Spurs are reportedly keen to secure an agreement for Fraser as soon as possible. The 26-year-old will become a free agent when his contract runs out, which would make him a shrewd investment if he ends up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Moreover, Mourinho has been hampered by a string of injuries to a number of his options on the flanks. Indeed, Son and Steven Bergwijn are finally returning from spells on the sidelines, which will no doubt give the side a massive boost as Spurs had suffered from several poor results in their absence.

Bearing this in mind, Fraser can provide able cover for the wide forwards, and signing the speedster makes perfect sense. It is fair to say the South Korean has been an integral part of the squad over the years, and the Scottish winger could ease help to ease the burden on him next season.

Whether or not he lives up to expectations remains to be seen but, if the transfer goes through, the Lilywhites will have gained a valuable asset at no extra cost.

West Ham recruiting Eddie Howe would be a sign of their pulling power

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

ExWHUEmployee has reported that Eddie Howe would be interested in joining West Ham United as manager if Manuel Pellegrini was to leave.

What’s the story?

The pressure is truly beginning to mount on Pellegrini, especially so after his West Ham side lost 3-2 against Tottenham Hotspur, going 3-0 down at one stage with what was a miserable performance.

[ad_pod ]

This has led to various managers being linked, with Sean Dyche a popular choice among fans, while Chris Hughton is also interested, according to The Athletic.

Howe has joined them on the list of managers linked with the West Ham job if it is vacated by the Chilean.

Premier League pulling power

There is still no guarantee that Pellegrini is going to be dismissed, however, if the Hammers were to recruit Howe, it would be a sign of their pulling power within the Premier League.

He may be at AFC Bournemouth, who are not the league’s biggest side in terms of stature, but Howe has almost become part of the furniture at Dean Court.

The 41-year-old has taken the Cherries from League Two to the Premier League, where they currently sit 11th in the table.

He has been at the club since 2012, after a brief stint at Burnley that was preceded by another three years with Bournemouth.

Once that is considered, it would likely take a lot to prise him away from the club he has become so synonymous with.

Therefore, it would definitely be a sign that West Ham still have pulling power within the Premier League’s mid-table clubs and lower if they were to successfully recruit him.

In other news, West Ham fans reacted to the reports surrounding a prospective new manager.

Wolves TT Roundup: Dani Olmo speaks about his future, Patrick Cutrone’s agent downplays exit talk, Danny Loader remains a target

In this instalment of our TT Roundup, Football Transfer Tavern have gathered three of the biggest stories to have involved Wolves recently and have provided our thoughts on the reports published.

Wolves target Dani Olmo speaks about his future

Soccer Football – 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship – Final – Spain v Germany – Dacia Arena, Udine, Italy – June 30, 2019 Spain’s Dani Olmo celebrates scoring their second goal as Germany’s Alexander Nubel looks dejected REUTERS/Alberto Lingria

In an interview with Spanish publication Sport, the 21-year-old Barcelona academy graduate replied “I hope I can come back” when asked about a possible return to La Liga, although he also stated: “I don’t close the door on any club.”

Verdict

Sport have claimed that Barcelona may be tempted to bring Olmo back to Camp Nou, which could leave Wolves needing to use all their powers of persuasion to try and bring him to Molineux.

He netted on his senior debut for Spain last Friday and scored against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League last month, with a return of six goals from 17 club games this season.

With Wolves not having an abundance of goals from midfield (Ruben Neves is their most prolific in that position so far this term with three), Olmo could be worth another try for Wolves in the January transfer window.

Patrick Cutrone’s agent refutes rumours of possible Wolves exit

Patrick Cutrone’s agent Donato Orgnoni has poured cold water on reports that the striker wants to leave Wolves and return to his native Italy.

Italian outlet Primo Canale reported on Monday [via Sport Witness] that the 21-year-old is seeking a return to Serie A, with Sampdoria considering a loan-to-buy offer in January.

However, Orgnoni subsequently told SampNews24 [via Sport Witness] that his client has not thought about leaving Wolves and is fully committed to the club.

Verdict

Cutrone hasn’t quite hit the ground running at Wolves since joining from AC Milan in July, with just two goals in 19 appearances so far for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.

Having made just three Premier League starts and remaining in the shadow of Raul Jimenez, who has followed up his 17 goals last season with 13 already this term, the Italian might have been hoping to make more of an impact at Molineux in his first few months at the club.

However, at 21 he has ample time to improve and does not deserve to be written off at Wolves yet, considering his tender years and that this is his first move outside of his homeland.

Wolves maintaining their interest in Danny Loader

Wolves are continuing to keep tabs on Reading forward Danny Loader, having come close to signing the 19-year-old during the summer.

On transfer deadline day in August, the teenager had a medical at Molineux and agreed terms with Wolves, only for the Royals to pull the plug on the deal at the last minute, as tweeted by Sky Sports reporter Anton Toloui.

That hasn’t deterred the Black Country club from renewing their interest in the player, though, with Birmingham Live claiming on Tuesday that Wolves are keeping tabs on him.

Verdict

Loader has yet to firmly establish himself in Reading’s first team, making just six senior appearances (four as a substitute) this season without scoring, as per TransferMarkt.

However, that hasn’t stopped Wolves from being joined in the race for his signature by Manchester United, according to Sky Sports News.

With Raul Jimenez scoring freely and a host of forward options either at the club currently (Diogo Jota, Patrick Cutrone, Pedro Neto) or out on loan (Rafa Mir, Leo Bonatini, Bright Enobakhare, Renat Dadashov), there seems no great need for Wolves to go all-in on an unproven striker who hasn’t yet nailed down a place at the team placed 19th in the Championship.

Leeds may want to resume their back three tactic this weekend

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Leeds United face Blackburn Rovers this weekend, and that represents a real chance for United to get back into the top two as the Lancashire club are deeply rooted in the bottom half of the Championship table.

However, the former Premier League champions can be a dangerous side as shown in their last two fixtures as they went 2-0 up against Preston before throwing away their lead, while this past weekend they beat Sheffield Wednesday.

The aforementioned teams have both drawn with Leeds in the past few of weeks, so the Whites need to be prepared if they’re to beat Blackburn this weekend, and that means doing their best to stifle one man.

Blackburn’s talisman

Now, we don’t like to call any side a one-man team, but the Rovers are the closest thing you’ll get to that in the Championship.

Indeed, Bradley Dack is undoubtedly Tony Mowbray’s most important player, he’s their top scorer this season – just as he was last term, and his performances often decide whether or not Blackburn win or lose.

Marcelo Bielsa must be wary of the threat that Dack poses, and there is one way that he can prepare for playing against him this weekend.

Why being the away goalkeeper at Leeds is the toughest job in football in the video below…

Three at the back

Bielsa usually only employs a three at the back formation against teams that are operating with two strikers, but perhaps he should stray away from that concept so that his side are better equipped to deal with Dack.

United have kept two clean sheets in a row while using a three at the back formation, including one against QPR, a team that possesses another attacking midfielder in the mould of Dack in Eberechi Eze.

A similar player, he’s scored six times and grabbed four assists from a combination of central and wider roles.

Having three centre-backs behind Kalvin Phillips alleviated some of the defensive responsibilities that the midfielder usually has, which in turn, allowed him to focus completely on limiting what Eze could do in that game.

Leeds should treat Dack with that same level of respect, because if they can take him out of the game their chances of winning drastically increase.

Aston Villa’s Andre Green struggles to build a claim to return whilst on loan

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Loan Watch series, which takes a closer look at those players who are aiming to galvanise their careers away from the spotlight of their parent club.

Right before the international break, there was a glimpse that fortunes may be about to change for one Midlands club.

Aston Villa rocked up to Carrow Road and thrashed Norwich City 5-1 with club-record signing Wesley netting a brace to double his tally for the season while midfield trio Jack Grealish, Conor Hourihane and Douglas Luiz also got their names on the scoresheet.

It was just Villa’s second win of the Premier League season, but it did see them move out of the relegation zone and into 15th.

Check out the real life version of FIFA 20’s Volta Football in the video below…

Before the match, Dean Smith’s men had only scored eight goals in their seven top-flight matches, so it may have come as a surprise to see them notch five in one game alone.

The scoring of chances has been a somewhat critical problem for the 48-year-old based on those numbers, adding to that the fact that they had received just two goals from their lone £22m striker too.

As the season draws on, there could be plenty of opportunity for Villa’s fringe cohort, youngsters, or even their loan outcasts to earn their chance at playing, especially if the side are unable to get the ball rolling after that dominant victory.

One of those with a significant opportunity could have been Andre Green, who did actually play some part in earning the club promotion last season.

He scored one goal and assisted one more in nine starts, per WhoScored, after returning from his loan spell at Portsmouth.

Green has once again gone out on loan this season to Preston North End in the Championship but has failed to make any impact of note, meaning he’s unlikely to be in Smith’s thoughts as the season rumbles on.

After scoring on his full debut in the Carabao Cup against League Two Bradford City, the winger has barely been seen.

He has played a total of just 86 minutes in the league, coming on as a substitute three times.

Green hasn’t even been named in the matchday squad for any of their last four Championship matches, which makes this loan move seem rather pointless for his career prospects.

If he’s unable to break into the side at Deepdale, it could mean that his Villa career is in serious jeopardy long-term as if he can’t produce the goods in a division below, he’s unlikely to be able to match the level of quality in the Premier League.

West Brom have made the same mistake as Cardiff in signing Kenneth Zohore

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

West Brom will be looking to bounce back from their midweek defeat when they host Cardiff City at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

The Baggies’ unbeaten run of nine games came to an end at the hands of Leeds United, thanks to left-back Ezgjan Alioski’s deflected effort in the 38th minute.

Slaven Bilic’s men just couldn’t find a way back into the match despite a second-half onslaught, which resulted in them recording seven shots and 67.3% possession, per WhoScored.

Despite scoring a goal in every game before that, Albion continued a recurring theme of struggling in front of goal.

Watch West Bromwich Albion Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Summer signings Charlie Austin and Kenneth Zohore have hardly set the ground running in the west Midlands, managing just two goals between them – both of which were scored by the latter through penalties.

This weekend marks a return against one of his former clubs with the Bluebirds in town.

Neil Warnock’s side are in a rich vein of form themselves as they remain unbeaten in their previous seven Championship outings, but things weren’t so rosy last season as they were relegated from the top-flight.

Zohore was part of that squad before joining the Baggies in an £8m move this summer, and his new club have suffered just as much as his old.

The 25-year-old recorded just one goal and one assist in 19 appearances, per WhoScored, though an injury did play its part to some extent.

But in his last Championship season across the Welsh border, Zohore could only muster up nine goals and five assists in 36 appearances, which isn’t a fantastic return from your leading man.

At his current rate, Zohore could well follow down the same path as he’s only bagged two in eight matches so far this campaign.

Therefore, this weekend’s fixture serves as a reminder of the mistake Bilic has potentially made – spending that much money on the forward, instead of heavily pursuing a proven man such as Dwight Gayle, who ran riot for the Baggies last term with 24 goals.

Then again, the £8m man could well start and score against his old club on Saturday.

Crystal Palace fans react as Victor Camarasa is not in the squad against Wolves

[ad_pod ]

Roy Hodgson and co were so close to being able to enjoy the rest of their weekend against Wolves on Sunday.

The Selhurst Park outfit went 1-0 up against the Midlands club thanks to an own goal from Leander Dendoncker following Joel Ward’s effort. But then, despite Romain Saiss’ red card, Palace’s opponents drew level thanks to a late, late strike from Diogo Jota.

The point sees them stay in 12th place in the Premier League table, but a victory would have seen them move into the top six.

The club’s supporters will feel hard done by, and they may have seen something their manager didn’t in terms of his team selection. The omission of Victor Camarasa was a cause for concern. Since signing for the Eagles on loan from Real Betis, the 25 year-old has made just two appearances, and is yet to start a Premier League game for his new club.
