India may be without head coach till 2016 World T20

The BCCI is unlikely to appoint a full-time head coach till the 2016 World Twenty20 in India, though the team director Ravi Shastri and three other members of the coaching staff are all set to receive a two-year contract extension

The BCCI is unlikely to appoint a full-time head coach till the 2016 World Twenty20 in India, though the team director Ravi Shastri and three other members of the coaching staff are all set to receive a two-year contract extension.Shastri and the three assistant coaches – Sanjay Bangar (batting), B Arun (bowling) and R Sridhar (fielding) – had already been assured of renewal of their contracts, but the tenure was not agreed upon. After consulting both the India captains -Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni – the BCCI hierarchy is understood to have informed all four members that they will be appointed for a two-year period. The contracts are likely to be handed before India’s expected departure for Zimbabwe on July 6.A BCCI insider revealed the board was satisfied with the current arrangement, as all three assistant coaches have gelled well. While some players had expressed apprehension over some of Bangar’s methods, those issues were sorted out in Bangladesh. The insider added that Shastri “would be the boss”, and said he enjoyed the support of Dhoni and Kohli.Shastri is known to be sharp and direct in his assessment of players’ performances. While he tried to keep the morale high during the defeats against Bangladesh, it is understood he did not hold back whenever he felt a player was not doing well.Dhoni himself had suggested during the Bangladesh series that the team was comfortable with the existing support staff. “If you are indirectly hinting that we need a coach and all that, we have enough people in the support staff to take care of us,” Dhoni said after the second ODI in Bangladesh.”Even if the position of the coach is vacant for some time, it is okay. Don’t put just anybody there just because the post is vacant. Then it will have a bad impact in the long run. It takes time to make these decisions, and our team generally doesn’t have that time because we keep playing non-stop.”

Kohli wins it for India after Amir storm

Pakistan crumbled to 83 all out in 17.3 overs – their lowest ever score batting first in T20Is – before Virat Kohli’s 49 led India to an eventually comfortable five-wicket win in Mirpur

Bazid Khan: Pakistan’s batting a deep-rooted problem

There is a bar for international batsmen and with Pakistan it is never quite certain which way they will push it. There is never a shortage of spectacle when they play and that box was at least ticked in Mirpur. Pakistan crumbled to 83 all out in 17.3 overs – their lowest ever score in T20Is after batting first. There is a bar for international bowlers too and Pakistan have been vaulting over it for years. Mohammad Amir, playing his sixth international limited-overs match in nearly as many years, turned up like he hadn’t missed a beat. He took out Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane for ducks in the first over of the chase, and a low-scoring game that had threatened to be one-sided was given the thrill India-Pakistan cricket is known for. But Virat Kohli’s class and technique prevailed in the end and India held on for a five-wicket win.Rohit, who had stood a class apart on a similarly challenging pitch on Wednesday, was beaten for pace and prodigious inswing before he even had his bearings set. The first ball, a yorker, may well have burned a hole through his boot and crashed into off stump. Amir could not have sounded his warning any clearer or louder but his leg-before appeal was turned down.So he pulled his length back but kept the inswing going. Rohit was rapped on the pads again and this time there was no doubt. Rahane, coming as a late replacement as Shikhar Dhawan rested a niggle, saw a wide down leg before he too could not handle the ball bending back into him at over 140 kph and was trapped in front. Suresh Raina popped a catch to mid-on in Amir’s next over and India were 8 for 3.Kohli persevered amid the carnage, deflecting the memory of an inswinger that nearly had him lbw and an edge that flew over the slip cordon. Both were off Amir’s bowling, but his full quota was all done by the seventh over. After that sensational spell of 4-0-18-3, India gained the breathing room they needed and Kohli’s 49 off 51 balls secured a fifth T20I win in six matches in the lead up to the World T20.As taxing as India’s batsmen had it, it was hard not to think about their bowlers. MS Dhoni had won the toss and handed them first use of a green-tinged pitch. Ashish Nehra began in vintage fashion, moving the ball across the right-hander and getting it to bounce more than expected. A surprised Mohammad Hafeez nicked the fourth ball of the match through to the wicketkeeper. At the other end, Jasprit Bumrah’s natural bustle into the crease had the same effect but he was bringing the ball into the right-handers. Khurram Manzoor’s pads weathered a lot of impact as he came in at No. 3 and played out a maiden over on his T20I debut. Sharjeel Khan was undone by Bumrah’s offcutter in the fourth over and India’s discipline was bearing the sweetest fruit.India’s pacers did most of the damage early on to set up the win•Associated Press

Then it created a spectacular chaos. Shoaib Malik poked a shortish delivery into the covers and took a few steps down, looking for a single. A non-existent one because Kohli had swooped down on the ball with great agility. It made Malik rethink his decision and then change it but it was too late. Manzoor was barely in the frame when the direct hit found the non-striker’s end. To complete the ineptness of that little passage of play from Pakistan, Manzoor had lost his bat in the frantic hurry to turn around and save himself. Seven balls later, Malik chased one outside off from Hardik Pandya and nicked it behind. It was the first of three wickets for a man known more as a batting allrounder.Yuvraj Singh surprisingly came in to bowl the first over of spin, ahead of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. His first ball was angled in at Umar Akmal, who played for turn and was trapped lbw and Pakistan were 35 for 5 in the eighth over.As if to cap a spell of self-destructive batting, there was another silly run-out. Shahid Afridi, whose experience spans nearly 20 years in international cricket, went for an ambitious second run to deep square leg taking on India’s quickest man across the turf and the strongest arm, of Ravindra Jadeja. The pick up was one-handed and the throw was barely a parabola. Like a sniper’s shot, it travelled along a near straight line and ended up a few centimeters away from the stumps and Dhoni made up the distance. Pakistan finished the eighth over at 42 for 6, the lower order just about doubled that. But it just wasn’t enough.

Novo Corinthians?

A tática do Corinthians deu certo.

As boas apresentações fizeram o meia despertar as atenções do técnico Tite.

O projeto apresentado, a estrutura, o time que nós temos.

Diego Alves, Filipe Luís, Rafinha, Gabriel, Everton, Arrascaeta…

– Meus três anos de Europa me ensinaram muito e me fizeram repensar muita coisa.

E a Seleção principal…

As duas coisas caminham juntas.

E pegou.

Knight Riders' experience v Daredevils' youth

Kolkata Knight Riders have a settled squad built on experience, while Delhi Daredevils are hoping for a fresh start under Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan

The Preview by Deivarayan Muthu09-Apr-2016Match factsSunday, April 10, 2016
Start time 2000 local (14.30 GMT)T20 ‘Champion’: Can Andre Russell add the IPL title to his cabinet as well?•BCCI

Big PictureGautam Gambhir v Quinton de Kock. Robin Uthappa v Shreyas Iyer. Yusuf Pathan v Karun Nair. Andre Russell v Carlos Brathwaite. Shakib Al Hasan v Pawan Negi. T20 experience v T20 exuberance. An ensemble cast v a bunch of apprentices.Kolkata Knight Riders’ push for their third title has become stronger, with Sunil Narine’s reworked action getting a clean chit from the ICC two days before the start of the tournament. Narine, however, isn’t a certainty for the first match, having returned to West Indies following his father’s death. Shakib is ever present in Knight Riders’ attack, and Brad Hogg, 45, the inspiration behind T20I’s oldest debutant Ryan Campbell, is still fit and ready to step in. Kuldeep Yadav, also a chinaman bowler, although 24 years younger than Hogg, provides another spin option. And the ensemble has got bigger with the cheap addition (INR 30 lakh, or USD 44,000 approx) of Colin Munro who can switch-hit fast bowlers for sixes. Munro is not just about brawn; he has it in him to grind it out as he showed against Mustafizur Rahman-powered Bangladesh at Knight Riders’ den during the World T20.Daredevils let go of 11 players and rebuilt their squad and support staff, laced with a flavour of Rajasthan Royals. Iyer, the torchbearer of Daredevils’ youth force, is not far from breaking into the team’s top-ten run-getters list, after only one IPL season. Brathwaite, who went 6,6,6,6 to seal West Indies’ second World T20 title a week ago at Eden Gardens, is billed as the other face of the team. However, there are plenty of concerns in the bowling department. The injured Joel Paris has already withdrawn from the tournament, the fit-again Mohammed Shami lacks match time, and to top it all captain Zaheer Khan has not played competitive cricket since the last IPL.In the spotlightAt the 2015 IPL, Kolkata Knight Riders sent #MuscleRussell trending. He was called the “Dre Russ” at the Big Bash League, where the Jamaican duck-hooked a skiddy bouncer from Doug Bollinger for a one-bounce four over square leg. At the PSL, Andre Russell was the leading wicket-taker. He has won the BPL, BBL, PSL and World T20 this season. An IPL title will be the perfect topping.Pawan Negi, listed at a base price of INR 30 lakh (USD 44,000 approx), was purchased for INR 8.5 crore (USD 1.3m approx) at the auction, following consistent bowling performances in the Vijay Hazare (India’s domestic one-dayers) and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (the domestic T20 competition). He then made his international debut for India at the Asia Cup. Negi, a T20 specialist who was earlier with Chennai Super Kings, can also swing his bat in the lower-middle order, but a hefty price tag brings pressure. Ask Yuvraj Singh. Ask Dinesh Karthik.Team newsIf Narine isn’t available, Knight Riders have a few back-up options, including Piyush Chawla. They will have to make a choice on the pace front between Morne Morkel and John Hastings. Morkel wasn’t part of South Africa’s World T20 squad, while Hastings got only one match in that tournament.Kolkata Knight Riders (probable) 1 Gautam Gambhir (capt), 2 Robin Uthappa (wk), 3 Manish Pandey, 4 Shakib Al Hasan, 5 Yusuf Pathan, 6 Suryakumar Yadav, 7 Andre Russell, 8 Brad Hogg/Sunil Narine, 9 Piyush Chawla/Kuldeep Yadav, 10 Umesh Yadav, 11 Morne Morkel/John HastingsWith de Kock in good form, Daredevils will want him to open and spend as much time as possible in the middle. Sanju Samson might beat Mayank Agarwal to the XI.Delhi Dardedevils (probable) 1 Shreyas Iyer, 2 Quinton de Kock (wk), 3 Sanju Samson/Mayank Agarwal, 4 JP Duminy, 5 Karun Nair, 6 Carlos Brathwaite, 7 Pawan Negi, 8 Zaheer Khan (capt), 9 Mohammed Shami 10 Amit Mishra, 11 Imran TahirPitch and conditionsWith dew likely to come into play later in the night, chasing might be the way to go at Eden Gardens. The weather is expected to be fine for the duration of the match.Stats and triviaKnight Riders’ squad has an experience of 2365 matches, while Daredevils’ has a count of 1471 Gambhir is among the top run-getters for Knight Riders as well as Daredevils. He tops the list for Knight Riders with 2346 runs at a strike rate of 124.65. For his former team, Gambhir is the fourth-highest, with 1115 runs at a strike rate of 122.52Quotes”I feel proud to be able to play at the Eden in KKR’s colours. I’m happy with my contribution in the last few seasons… I think our team is stronger than before.”
“He is an inspiration. I was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore when he was there and, that time, I wasn’t playing so it was huge step for me to be in the same dressing room. Now having the opportunity to play under him [is] great. We can all learn so much from him.”

Gritty Ballance provides Yorkshire foundation

Gary Ballance scored an unbeaten half-century as he and Jack Leaning helped revive Yorkshire on a day of interruptions at Edgbaston

There is an expression they use around these parts to describe notable buildings. Knowing they cannot get away with the word “beautiful” – Birmingham has many qualities, but few would claim beauty was one of them – they ascribe the word “iconic” instead. The Bullring is “iconic”. The Mailbox is “iconic”. The new pavilion at Edgbaston is “iconic” and no doubt the redeveloped New Street Station will be described that way, too.So perhaps that is the word that should be used to describe innings by Gary Ballance. Certainly there was nothing beautiful about this one. He didn’t so much hit a half-century as nudge, deflect and accumulate one. There were, of course, some of those trademark cut strokes – he is not one to miss out on the short ball outside off stump – and some pleasing cover drives, two of which could legitimately be called beautiful, but this was, on the whole, a demonstration of patience, restraint and discipline. Those qualities have become somewhat unfashionable in modern cricket. But against a good attack, on an April pitch offering the bowlers some assistance and with his side in trouble, Ballance and Jack Leaning provided the fortitude their side required. Coming together with the score on 85 for 4, the pair have so far added 92 for the fifth wicket.Ballance’s technique drew a great deal of scrutiny last year. While it is true he does tend to play unusually far back in his crease, he does this, in part, so as not to be drawn into pushing outside off stump. So while others, not least Adam Lyth, might go searching for the ball and edge to slip, Ballance has the patience to wait all day. Then, having forced the bowlers into his areas, he is strong off his legs, plays as straight and late as the best of them, and can still put away anything over-pitched effectively. He also has an unusual stroke where he turns balls behind square that seems to keep bowlers interested but brings him copious runs.He was probably a little unfortunate to be dropped from the Test team last summer. While he had a tough game against Australia at Lord’s, he had contributed a typically gritty 61 in the previous game at Cardiff and contributed in an important stand with Joe Root. This innings at Edgbaston was not dissimilar in some ways: it never looked simple, but he found a way, in tricky conditions, to contribute.Ballance does have another gear. Given the chance, he has a range of more aggressive strokes. But though there were a few pleasing moments here – a gorgeous, flowing drive through extra-cover, played on one knee, off Rikki Clarke, and a well-timed cover drive off Keith Barker – he reasoned that his side required him to bat long in such testing conditions. He scored only 4 from his first 30 deliveries and his half-century occupied 119 deliveries. The watching England selector, James Whitaker, cannot but help to have been impressed.”He absorbed a lot of pressure,” Jason Gillespie, the Yorkshire coach, said. “He knows which zones he is strong in and he sticks to them. I didn’t agree with the decision to drop him last summer.”This was an important innings from Leaning, too. With Root returning to the Yorkshire side next week, he looked like the batsman most likely to make way for him. And while he was less solid than Ballance – his strength square of the wicket lures him into flashing at deliveries outside off stump – he benefited from some loose, leg-side bowling from Boyd Rankin and showed admirable fight. On a chilly day interrupted often by rain and bad light – 38 overs were lost ultimately – it was not easy for batsmen or bowlers to gain rhythm. Warwickshire will feel they lacked consistency with the ball and Yorkshire will feel their top order remains more vulnerable than they would like. Having won the toss and chosen to bat – a sure sign that this is a decent pitch given the cold and wet start to the summer – they were in danger of not taking advantage. Warwickshire, too, would have batted had they won the toss.Alex Lees’ drive was beaten by inswing, losing his middle and off stumps, Adam Lyth scooped an attempted pull to mid-off and Andrew Gale dragged on a swinging full toss. It tends to take a fine delivery to dismiss Jonny Bairstow at present and Chris Woakes produced one – an inswinger that would have made James Anderson proud – to defeat his drive and take the off stump.Woakes, understandably delighted by the delivery, later admitted that he had been working on his inswinger of late having noticed its effectiveness reduced after he added pace to his bowling. But Ballance’s fortitude blunted the attack and helped Yorkshire finish the day with honours even.On such a cold, grey day, Gillespie could hardly be forgiven if he dreamed of a life back in Australia. It seems there is an opportunity: Darren Lehmann, the Australia coach, recently said that Gillespie would be “at the forefront” of those considered for the Australia bowling coach role that is currently vacant. While Gillespie did not rule out such a move, he said there had been no contact as yet and reiterated his commitment to a Yorkshire side seeking a third successive Championship title.”I haven’t had any contact with anyone about that,” Gillespie said. “There’s nothing to report. I’m focused on my role here. You don’t rule out any opportunity in the future if you feel you can make a difference but I have four kids under 10 and family comes first.”

– No primeiro tempo, a gente avançou e atacou. Conseguimos furar a defesa do Palmeiras.

Agarkar: Will be tough for Punjab to get past Bangalore

Big PictureWith a top four that would be the envy of any Twenty20 team in the world, how Royal Challengers Bangalore find themselves second from bottom of the points table is a question that the team management would be asking itself.Batting has been Royal Challengers’ stronger suit, and unlike the previous seasons, they haven’t relied on a few individuals. Virat Kohli has already struck two centuries this season and AB de Villiers has three half-centuries. Shane Watson has played some vital knocks, like the 13-ball 36 against Rising Pune Supergiants on Saturday. Sarfaraz Khan and Sachin Baby have caught the eye with scoops and reverse-scoops, while KL Rahul has been successful at the top with orthodox shots.Royal Challengers’ weak link has been the bowling. Thrice they have allowed teams to chase down totals in excess of 180. On an average, Royal Challengers have conceded 9.45 runs an over – the worst among all teams – and Watson, at 8.26, is the team’s most economical bowler.By contrast, Kings XI Punjab have thrived with the ball. Sandeep Sharma and Mohit Sharma have nailed inch-perfect yorkers in the end overs, playing key roles in each of Punjab’s three wins this season. That Mohit has added the offcutter to his back-of-the-hand legcutter augurs well for the hosts. Axar Patel’s quick fizzers and Marcus Stoinis’ slower balls add more variety to the attack. M Vijay, the captain, has multiplied the efficiency of the attack with smart field placements. He is also Kings XI’s highest run-getter this season with 229 runs in nine matches at an average and strike rate of 25.44 and 118.04, including two fifties. The form of David Miller and Glenn Maxwell, however, continues to be a cause for concern. The two have a combined tally of 310 runs in nine matches.Form guideKings XI Punjab WLWLL (last five matches, most recent first)
Royal Challengers Bangalore WLLLWIn the spotlightStoinis has proved a valuable addition to Kings XI. He has crunched 112 runs in four innings, striking at 130.23, to add to four wickets. Besides, he has shown the ability to hold his own in the slog overs with yorkers and cutters.Chris Jordan had an ordinary IPL debut, for Royal Challengers, giving away 43 runs for the wicket of Thisara Perera. Having come in as a replacement for the injured Mitchell Starc, he has big shoes to fill. Can Jordan match the Sharmas on Monday?Team newsKings XI may stick to the same team that toppled Delhi Daredevils.Kings XI Punjab (probable): 1 M Vijay (capt), 2 Marcus Stoinis, 3 Hashim Amla, 4 Wriddhiman Saha (wk), 5 Glenn Maxwell, 6 David Miller, 7 Axar Patel, 8 Gurkeerat Singh, 9 Mohit Sharma, 10 Sandeep Sharma, 11 KC CariappaRoyal Challengers have already paid the price for using an occasional wicketkeeper in Rahul. He has fluffed stumping chances and allowed the ball to sneak through. It was one such missed stumping, of Andre Russell, which might have cost Royal Challengers their match against Kolkata Knight Riders. Will they pass the keeping gloves to Kedar Jadhav? Rahul, though, has come good with the bat, which means that Sachin Baby may have to be left out to accommodate Jadhav. Royal Challengers also made the bold move of dropping Chris Gayle against Supergiants. Will they be tempted to give him another go? If Gayle makes the cut, Travis Head is likely to miss out.Royal Challengers Bangalore (probable): 1 Virat Kohli (capt), 2 Chris Gayle/Travis Head, 3 KL Rahul, 4 AB de Villiers, 5 Shane Watson, 6 Sachin Baby/Kedar Jadhav (wk), 7 Stuart Binny, 8 Parvez Rasool, 9 Chris Jordan, 10 Varun Aaron, 11 Yuzvendra ChahalPitch and conditionsThe Mohali surface has helped the spinners this season. Teams have enjoyed chasing at the venue, although the last two matches have suggested otherwise. Cloud cover is expected, but there is no rain forecast.Stats and trivia Wriddhiman Saha’s 52 against Daredevils was his first fifty-plus score in the IPL after 19 innings. The last time he passed 50 was in the 2014 final, when he scored an unbeaten 115 against Knight Riders. Virat Kohli went past 500 runs for the season during the course of his unbeaten 108 against Supergiants. Kohli did so in his eighth innings, making it the fastest by any batsman in a season. The record previously belonged to Kohli’s team-mate, Chris Gayle, who took nine innings in 2011.Quotes”Sarfaraz Khan isn’t going to get more than 10-15 balls to play. You can’t afford to have too many in the field who aren’t up to the mark with their speed. You need guys who are fit, and can get to the ball quickly to save you 5-6 runs in the field. Sachin Baby is committed and works on those things. I’d be committed to anyone who gives me 120 per cent in the field.”
