The ICC’s Board meeting on January 9, where full member boards were presented with a “working group position paper” was unscheduled, called in without any agenda other than a hint that “financial matters” would be discussed. What the members were presented with instead, was a radical overhaul of the administration and finances of the world body, being told that the plan had been six months in the making. Giles Clarke of the ECB opened the discussion and the “position paper” was presented by BCCI president N Srinivasan.The head of one of the boards outside the Big Three (Australia, England, India) said the draft paper “came out of nowhere. Nothing had been hinted at.” The role of the England and Australian boards have surprised a few, with one official saying, “I don’t think the plan would have worked if either of other two had not acceded. It is devastating.”Apart from New Zealand Cricket’s director Martin Snedden and Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan, there has been little official comment on the draft paper from all the member boards, particularly those outside the Big Three. Hassan told reporters in Dhaka on Monday that Bangladesh could not raise a voice of protest.”We can’t do anything on our own. I can protest but if the other nine countries are on one side, there’s not much I can do,” Hassan said. “I have to find countries who are in our position, read through the proposals and then think what to do.”Other than the BCB and CSA, the countries who disagree with the proposals do not wish to be identified. However, the WICB and one other board have called special meetings since news of the papers was released last week. The member boards are in discussion with each other about the documents.Tony Irish, chief executive of the South African Cricketers’ Association defined the document as, “concerning,” saying it will have “significant implication for cricket, particularly for smaller countries of which South Africa is one – revenue wise.” South Africa’s alienation by the Big Three – either from being involved in the formulation of the plan or as a beneficiary in their Test match fund to support smaller nations – is deliberate. South Africa are ranked No.1 on the ICC’s Test rankings but find themselves ranked below Pakistan at the highest level of revenue share projections. It is understood that there had been “overtures” on behalf of the Big Three and the South Africans, and presenting them with the choice of finding themselves in the “top four or the bottom six.” Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) response in the situation, should the matter go to vote in the Board meeting on January 28-29, may well hold the answer to that particular question put to them.When the details of the document were presented at the meeting, there were very few questions raised and the Australia-England-India triad are confident enough to generate the numbers they need, seven votes out of ten on the Boards. The backroom work has been done in the form of the terms – hosting ICC events, lucrative bilateral deals in the newly-generated FTP, even surrogate hosting of IPL matches due to the fact that this year’s season will coincide with the Indian general elections.

كان نيمار قد رحل عن برشلونة، في خطوة مفاجئة، في صيف 2017 حيث انضم إلى باريس سان جيرمان.

ورغب نيمار في العودة من جديد إلى برشلونة، هذا الصيف، ولكن تلك الخطوة لن تتم حيث بات البرازيلي قريبًا من الانتقال إلى الدوري السعودي من بوابة الهلال.

ووفقًا لصحيفة “ليكيب” الفرنسية، فإن نيمار لا يرى خطوة انتقاله إلى الدوري السعودي كنهاية لمسيرته الاحترافية.

وأشارت إلى أن نيمار يستهدف العودة إلى كرة القدم الأوروبية بعد انتهاء عقده مع الهلال، الذي سيكون ساريًا لمدة عامين.

Yasir Arafat took 2 for 1 in his One-Over Eliminator to deliver the Perth Scorchers a thrilling victory over the Sydney Sixers.Following a tie to send the game into the first One-Over Eliminator in BBL history Arafat clean bowled Steve Smith with a slower ball first ball of the over. Then, after Nic Maddinson had faced a dot and scored a single, Moises Henriques sliced a catch to backward point to bag the BBL’s first-ever unofficial pair and leave the Scorchers needing two runs to win. Adam Voges struck the first ball from Brett Lee for four send the Scorchers to second on the BBL table.Arafat was the sole reason for the tied game in the first place, as he experienced the highs and lows of T20 cricket in the Sixers’ nail-biting chase.He dropped Steve Smith at third man off Alfonso Thomas when the Sixers captain was on 27. It would have left the Sixers 6 for 79 needing 75 to win from 50 balls.Instead, Smith exploded to make 65 off 48 before Arafat dismissed him with a slower ball in the 18th over. Arafat cleaned bowled Nathan Lyon two balls later to leave the Sixers requiring 23 runs off 14 balls with two wickets in hand. But Brett Lee and Chris Tremlett took 14 from Thomas’ fourth over, the 19th, to put the pressure back on Arafat.The Pakistan international conceded four runs from the first three balls of the last over when he only had six to play with. He then bowled Lee with an inswinging yorker.Josh Hazlewood scrambled a single to leave Tremlett needing two for the win and one for a tie from the final ball. Arafat misfielded Tremlett’s drive back to him and the resulting single forced the One-Over Eliminator.Jason Behrendorff was overshadowed by the adventures of Arafat. His opening burst of 3 for 21 decimated the Sixers top order. He was on a hat-trick in his second over courtesy of deliveries that found the outside edges of both the right-handed Henriques and the left-handed Marcus North.Earlier Brett Lee had produced a similar burst, taking two wickets in the first over of the match after the Scorchers won the toss. His pace was too much for Craig Simmons and Mitch Marsh. Lee finished with career-best T20 figures of 4 for 28.Between Lee’s two spells a partnership of 129 between Simon Katich and Sam Whiteman set up the Scorchers total, before Lee castled Whiteman for 54. Katich made 71. Adam Voges chimed in with 19 from eight balls to tick the total to 153. As it turned out the Scorchers needed every last run.

Shaun Marsh has said working with Justin Langer and Simon Katich helped him develop his mental toughness

It would be difficult to find two harder heads in cricket than those of Justin Langer and Simon Katich. Left-handed batting sons of the West, they have been instrumental in building the reserves of mental strength and concentration that allowed Shaun Marsh to compile a memorable Test century on day one of the series against South Africa, making light of the extraordinarily rushed circumstances of his recall, and the pressure of what amounted to his last chance at the top level.Only five days ago, Marsh sat on his couch at home in Perth with any thoughts of adding to his eight Test matches a million miles from his mind. But a fluent innings in the Big Bash League final and a calf strain to Shane Watson had him flown over to the tour he had been initially selected for then cut from due to injury, and pitted against Dale Steyn, Vernon Philander and Morne Morkel at Centurion.At one level, the rush was beneficial, not allowing Marsh time to think too much about the challenges of travel and the adjustments between formats. But on another it was testament to the work of Langer and Katich, who have taken it upon themselves to instil the kind of resilience and vitality writ large across the innings that has set such a fine platform for Australia.”I’ve worked really hard with Justin Langer over the past 12 months,” Marsh said of his state coach. “He’s one of the most mentally tough players I’ve come across. Simon Katich has been really good too, from the Scorchers, for the past couple of years. He’s been great to talk to as well.”When you do get to this level you’ve got to be so mentally tough, and that’s something I’ve had to work really hard on over the past couple of years. Just going out there and having a clear mind and enjoying it are the main two things I’ve really tried to do over the last six months, just to try and go and have fun and play each game as if it’s my last.”I have tried to prepare myself as best I could, I felt like I was hitting the ball as well as I could in the couple of days in the nets. I didn’t have that much time to think, so when I got the tap on the shoulder the day before to say I was playing I was ready to go.”One of Katich’s strongest views is that players must learn self-reliance, and it was evident at Centurion how well Marsh was able to cocoon himself from all that was going on around him and simply focus on the next ball. He left many of them well alone, straining the patience of the bowlers and waiting patiently for deliveries in his zones to hit. Twelve boundaries duly accrued.Each one was music to the ears of the national selector John Inverarity, the coach Darren Lehmann, and others in the team like the vice-captain Brad Haddin, all figures who have kept faith in Marsh despite plenty of reasons to look elsewhere, namely a mediocre first-class record both overall and for this season. No longer a twentysomething, Marsh admitted this was likely to be his last chance.”Definitely. You get to my age – I’m nearly 31 – and you’ve got to take your opportunities,” Marsh said. “Like ‘Hadds’ said, once you get to 30 you don’t get too many more than one chance. Hopefully I can continue on what I’ve done yesterday and just keep building.”Obviously they’ve shown a huge amount of faith in me on the back of my Shield form. It was good for me to get some form yesterday, not only for me but the team as well and the guys who have shown a lot of faith in me. I don’t really know [why I’ve been inconsistent]. I think not playing four or five games or so per year, probably doesn’t help with my injuries, that doesn’t put you on a path to consistency. But I don’t know.”Hopefully I can keep building now. I’ve still got a few years left in me, hopefully, and I can get a lot more consistency with it and finish off well.”In addition to helping Australia to a strong position, Marsh’s performance shooed away unhappy memories of his horrific last Test series against India, and of Centurion itself. It was here in 2012 that he had been suspended, alongside his brother Mitchell, from the Perth Scorchers team for off-field misdeeds.”It was this hotel as well [in Johannesburg] so it wasn’t great,” Marsh said. “It’s nice to come back here and play well. I’ve now got some happier memories. It’s been a pretty amazing two weeks for me and to get over here and get the opportunity to play in the first Test and get a century in the first innings has been great so far, hopefully I can continue on today.”A Test hundred in South Africa against quality opposition rates really highly for me and I’m very happy to be out there playing for my country again.”
