Crystal Palace are reportedly interested in signing FC Copenhagen defender Victor Nelsson ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

What’s the story?

According to the Daily Mail, the Eagles have ‘checked in’ on the 22-year-old as they weigh up a potential move over the summer.

The report also claims that several other European clubs are keeping an eye on the highly-rated Nelsson, while fellow Premier League side Aston Villa were linked with a £9m deal 12 months ago.

Forget Tomkins

Changes are expected to be aplenty at Selhurst Park over the coming months as Palace chairman Steve Parish oversees a sizeable squad rebuild.

A dozen first-team players are out of contract at the south London club, and with Roy Hodgson departing, the 73-year-old’s successor will have to bring in several new faces upon his arrival.

Palace had the oldest squad in the Premier League in 2020/21, a factor that the club’s hierarchy will surely be looking to address in the window, and Nelsson would certainly help with that.

An ageing backline often including an older centre-back such as James Tomkins or Gary Cahill, leaked a whopping 66 goals in 38 Premier League games this season, the third-highest total in the top-flight.

While injury severely restricted Tomkins’ game time, his struggles when he was on the pitch indicate that a changing of the guard can’t come soon enough for the capital club.

Nelsson has been a crucial component to Copenhagen’s success in the current campaign, starting every game of the Superligaen Championship Round, highlighting his importance to Jess Thorup’s men.

The £2.7m-rated centre-back (as per Transfermarkt) is the perfect modern-day defender thanks to his previous exploits in midfield. At 6ft, he’s big enough to be dominant in the air but is also cultured with the ball at his feet and showcased his quality against Manchester United in the 2019/20 Europa League quarter-finals.

Against the Red Devils, Nelsson was a beast, making nine clearances – more than any other player on the pitch – blocking two shots and achieving a WhoScored rating of 7.39, keeping Marcus Rashford off the scoresheet in the process.

Only a Bruno Fernandes penalty got past the Denmark international on the day, and Palace must swoop for the promising defender to kickstart their post-Hodgson era.

What’s the word?

That’s according to Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who dropped a fresh claim on Twitter earlier this week, where he suggested that the Fulham loan star is firmly on Spurs’ radar.

He wrote:

“Tottenham are working to resolve the manager situation then the board will decide on new signings. Joachim Andersen is the main target as centre-back – he wants to stay in Premier League, #THFC want him. Many European clubs are interested too.”

The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has also revealed that the Danish defender has “chosen that he would like to come to Spurs” but the North Londoners are yet to open negotiations with his parent club, Lyon.

Andersen is expected to cost around £25m, as per the Telegraph, though as Romano states, there will be stern competition from right across Europe.

Imagine him under Pochettino

This off-season is certainly going to be an interesting one for the Lilywhites as their search for Jose Mourinho’s successor rumbles on. And one claim this week has linked Mauricio Pochettino with a sensation return to the club.

The Argentine was sacked over 18 months ago and is currently at Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, though he’s thought to be open to coming back to the club.

Andersen is the sort of player that Pochettino would love in the heart of defence, especially as that is where Spurs need an overhaul the most.

As explained perfectly by The Athletic earlier this campaign, defensive issues and a lack of cohesion has been the defining theme of Tottenham’s terrible season.

Mourinho couldn’t settle on a backline, using over 16 different combinations, but you can hardly blame him when you’ve got to pick between Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez in the middle.

If Levy does manage to secure the 49-year-old, then he’ll only have the exact same problems, which is why a move for Andersen makes a ton of sense.

Despite being relegated with Fulham, the 24-year-old colossus has impressed massively, leading to praise from those in and around Premier League football.

For instance, ex-Wimbledon star Robbie Earle dubbed him “absolutely sensational” to his ‘The 2 Robbies’ podcast, whilst the Daily Mirror’s chief football writer John Cross hailed him as “magnificent” earlier in the campaign.

When comparing Andersen to Dier, there’s a clear standout, too.

The 6 foot 4 giant vastly outperformed the Spurs defender, yet it is he who tasted relegation. That says more about the Englishman than it does the Lyon loanee.

As per WhoScored, Andersen won more aerial duels (3.2 per game), registered more interceptions (1.4 per game), made more tackles (1.2 per game), and was more successful in finding the opposition offside (1.1x per game) than Dier.

His passing range is phenomenal too, having averaged a whopping 5.8 long balls per game, and that’ll please Pochettino and his system even more.

It means he not only reads the game better than the Spurs star but he also performed better, despite tasting relegation, in comparison to Spurs’ seventh-place finish.

Evidently, the £26m-rated centre-back is a huge upgrade on Dier, who was snubbed from England’s European Championship squad this week.

Levy could begin to turn things around in N17 if he were to land both Pochettino and Andersen as his first two pieces of business this summer. He must get this deal done.

Eu conto muito com o lastro de cada atleta, que já tenham passado por aspectos táticos, ou aspectos técnicos para que a gente possa rapidamente montar uma equipe. Dia 25 de janeiro nós já vamos jogar. É necessário que a gente já tenha uma evolução desses atletas que vão se apresentar no início de janeiro até o dia 25. Então, para isso, nós vamos ter que trabalhar bastante. Eu não tenho dúvida em afirmar que todos aqueles que vão fazer parte da Chape em 2017 vão vir com esse pensamento- afirmou o técnico.

Por fim, Mancini explicou o estilo de jogo que quer dar à Chape no próximo ano.

-O mais importante quando você monta uma equipe é você analisar as características dos jogadores que você tem à disposição e montar um esquema de jogo. Mais importante que isso é você ir atrás de jogadores que tenham perfil de entrega em campo, aqueles que tenham o lado técnico que saibam jogar futebol, que entendam a parte tática, mas, acima de tudo, que honrem a camisa que estão vestindo. Eu posso assegurar a vocês que se a Chapecoense tiver que suar sangue, ela vai suar dentro de campo, porque o torcedor quer ver isso, que ver essa entrega. Eu realmente gosto de times competitivos e não tem como ser um time competitivo que não tenha vibração, que não tenha fibra. O princípio básico de uma equipe é essa- completou.

Até o momento, a Chapecoense já fechou com quatro reforços: o goleiro Elias, do Juventude; o atacante Rossi, que vem do Goiás, o zagueiro Douglas Grolli, do Cruzeiro e com o volante Dodô, do Atlético-MG.

Everton have ‘been offered’ former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo as a possible replacement for Carlo Ancelotti.

That’s according to the print edition of Spanish publication AS (via Sport Witness).

Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Real Madrid were in talks with Ancelotti, whom they identified as a candidate to replace Zinedine Zidane. Los Blancos were said to be ‘pushing’ to bring the Italian back to the Bernabeu, and the Italian’s departure has since been confirmed.

Ancelotti signed a four-and-a-half-year deal when he took over at Goodison Park in December 2019 but Nuno could now be a decent replacement option.

The 47-year-old parted company with Wolves at the end of the season after they finished 13th in the Premier League. Prior to that, he led them to promotion and back-to-back seventh-place finishes.

Twitter account Everton News Feed relayed the claim from AS, and here’s how supporters reacted. Many were unconvinced by Nuno’s credentials as a possible successor to Ancelotti off the back of a poor season, with one even remarking that they would rather have the much-criticised Marco Silva back at Goodison Park.

كشفت تقارير صحفية سنغالية، أن هناك معضلة أمام المدير الفني لـ منتخب السنغال، آليو سيسيه، في الاختيار بين ثنائي مركز الظهير الأيمن أمام مصر.

لم يتبق سوى بضع ساعات على مباراة السنغال أمام مصر في ملعب استاد القاهرة الدولي، بذهاب الدور النهائي من التصفيات المؤهلة إلى كأس العالم 2022.

موقع ” wiwsport” السنغالي، أكد بأن أليو سيسيه أمامه معضلة في اختيار اللاعب الأساسي بمركز الظهير الأيمن، مابين بونا سار ويوسف سبالي.
