Durante o torneio amistoso no Uruguai ele atuou com Matheus Sales contra o Libertad (PAR) e com Moisés diante do Nacional (URU) – o camisa 28 ainda não foi regularizado no Paulista. No Estadual, Thiago Santos foi seu parceiro no meio.

Gabriel, em fase final de recuperação da cirurgia que fez no joelho esquerdo, e Rodrigo, que se machucou na pré-temporada e não está inscrito no Paulista, são os únicos do setor que ainda não tiveram chances.

Responsável desde os primeiros treinos do ano a iniciar as jogadas entre os zagueiros para evitar chutões, Arouca terá liberdade para revezar funções com Jean hoje. Mesmo jogando com atletas diferentes, o camisa 5 tem se mantido como o meio-campista mais próximo da defesa para facilitar a saída de jogo.

Mudar pouco o mínimo possível a estrutura da equipe mesmo que alterando jogadores é uma forma de facilitar a preparação e algo possível pelas opções deste elenco. Para Fernando Prass, o Verdão tem um grupo mais homogêneo que o de 2015.

– A gente está com um mês de preparação, ela ainda não está completa. Alguns jogadores ficaram fora pelo cansaço de começo de temporada mesmo e voltam normalmente. O Arouca tem uma qualidade muito grande, e o Marcelo quer usar ele com o Jean, vai ter uma chance agora para usar os dois. As chances vão ser dadas, cabe ao jogador se escalar. Porque quem se escala e quem sai do time é o jogador – analisou o goleiro.

Os times de Arouca nos últimos seis anos tiveram sucesso no Paulista; todos chegaram à decisão. West Ham United have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Gaetan Laborde after the Montpellier striker’s agent, Christophe Hutteau, stated he will not leave the Ligue 1 side this month.

While speaking with Explica, Hutteau has gone on record to say his client has no intentions of securing a mid-season transfer and will see out the 2020/21 campaign at the Stade de la Mosson.

Laborde is believed to be a target for Olympique de Marseille in the winter market after scoring six goals in 17 Ligue 1 appearances, while West Ham plus Bundesliga and Russian outfits have previously been linked.

Marseille value Laborde between €8m (£7m) and €10m (£9m) but face offering at least €15m (£13.5m) to seal a deal, with Montpellier in agreement with the forward and his representative that a summer separation better suits all parties.

“Gaetan’s first wish is to stay until the end of the season. This is the career plan we had set with President Laurent Nicollin. There is no intention of leaving this winter,” Hutteau said.

“If he stays, it will be anything but a disaster because he feels good in this club, where he continues to progress, where he takes pleasure.

“Now we can imagine that the club of Montpellier could say to itself ‘if there is a concrete offer, I find myself in the obligation to sell’. This can also be this situation, it is not to be excluded. There is nothing closed.”

A huge blow or a lucky break?

Hutteau stating categorically that Laborde will remain with Montpellier until the summer will come as a huge blow for West Ham if the east London outfit were considering a move to sign the 26-year-old in the January window.

However, in bringing the former France U20 international to the London Stadium, David Sullivan would have left David Moyes scratching his head in the dugout as Laborde – who has provided a hand in 11 goals this season (six scored, five assisted) – has displayed all the characteristics that left the Scottish coach seething last month.

“I thought the biggest thing tonight was that we had a great chance to go two or three up, maybe even more,” said Moyes, via quotes by football.london, following the 3-1 defeat at home to Manchester United.

“We played really well but we didn’t kill it off when we had the chance to do so, show a clinical edge to our finishing or our final pass which was needed. I think that was what cost us tonight.”

Laborde would likely have not fared any better, having taken the second-most shots by any player in Ligue 1 thus far this term with 47 efforts in 17 games, yet only directing 22 on target and six into the back of the net, per WhoScored.

He’s further offered only 1.1 key passes a game, wins 50% of his aerial duels, completes 51% of his attempted dribbles and takes an unsuccessful touch every 37.1 minutes.

West Ham are in need of additional goalscorers with no Premier League side above the Irons in the table scoring fewer goals than Moyes’ men thus far, but Laborde may not have been the answer and this huge blow may actually prove to be a lucky break.

With the transfer window now in full swing, there probably hasn’t been a better excuse for Leeds to go out and sign someone.

Having lost 3-0 to League Two Crawley Town on Sunday, it’s clear that a number of their fringe and academy stars simply aren’t good enough.

What’s the word?

One player who Leeds are targeting this month is Fredrik André Bjørkan, a left-back currently plying his trade for Bodo/Glimt.

The 22-year-old is a rising star of Norwegian football and has been capped 12 times by their U21 side.

According to La Repubblica (via Sport Witness), the Whites are set to battle Italian side Sampdoria for his signature. There is also further interest from England with Newcastle and Norwich seemingly eyeing a move for the young defender.

Via Transfermarkt, Bjorkan is only rated at a measly £1.08m so wouldn’t cost much if Leeds wanted to invest.

Bye-bye Alioski

Bjorkan’s reputation is rather small at the moment but his stature within the game is growing all the time. He’s a player that’s been on Leeds’ radar for a while and considering they only have two viable left-backs to choose from – Gjanni Alioski and Leif Davis – Victor Orta needs to find someone else.

In the 22-year-old, they’d have an ideal remedy, one who has already played Europa League football and stood out against AC Milan.

Glimt won the 2020 Norwegian top-flight and a big part of that was down to Bjorkan, someone who was ever-present on his way to assisting four goals in 30 outings. That shows that he’s adept going forward but what’s most impressive are the 1.7 tackles a game he won for his side.

To put that into context, Alioski has won the same number for Leeds this term. That’s in a team who are having to do far more defending too.

Though, the most encouraging detail yet comes courtesy of Frank Amundsen, an expert on all things Leeds and Glimt: “Truly believe Bjørkan will fit Bielsa’s style of play pretty well,” he stated towards the end of last year.

This wouldn’t be a marquee deal but given the potential Bjorkan has at the age of just 22, it would be great business.

He’d also surely be an upgrade on the inconsistent Alioski.

And perhaps crucially, his ability to switch play and be accurate with his longer passing (he completed all five of his attempted long balls) meant that Southampton couldn’t press too high or risk getting exposed in behind.

It’s been telling that amid Arsenal’s plethora of options in central midfield, Xhaka has been the one constant, playing in 16 of the Gunners’ 20 Premier League games, and starting and completing the full 90 minutes in the last six.

Being left-footed and with his increasing defensive discipline, he seems to be the one man in that Arsenal midfield who looks to be irreplaceable for Arteta.

Dois clubes do Rio podem perder pontos no Campeonato Carioca e serem multados por conta de escalação de jogadores irregulares na primeira rodada da competição. Segundo o site “FutRio.net”, o Bonsucesso e Tigres do Brasil foram enquadrados no artigo 214 do Código Brasileiro de Justiça Desportiva pelo Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva do Rio de Janeiro (TJD-RJ). A decisão saiu nesta sexta-feira e os julgamentos dos times acontecem na próxima terça-feira, a partir das 17h, no Centro do Rio.

O Bonsucesso estreou contra a Portuguesa, no Luso Brasileiro, e tinha seis atletas com pendências no Bira (Boletim Informativo de Registro de Atletas) até o dia da partida. Já o Tigres fez sua primeira partida contra o Resende, e foi para o jogo com apenas 12 jogadores na súmula. Ainda assim, dois deles estavam com pendências no Bira.

Caso sejam condenados pelo artigo 214 do Código Brasileiro de Justiça Desportiva, os clubes poderão perder três pontos e ser multados de R$ 100 a R$ 100 mil.

Just when you thought Celtic may have turned a corner with their 2-0 win over Hamilton last time out, Neil Lennon’s side found a way to sink even lower.

The Hoops fell to a woeful 2-1 defeat to St Mirren at Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon, and whether the manager takes most of the blame, or the players, it was an all-round woeful day.

Despite boasting a whopping 68% of the possession, Celtic could only muster a paltry three shots on target, two less than the visitors. And whilst Shane Duffy will once again be in the headlines after being at fault for one of St Mirren’s goals, Leigh Griffiths will have some explaining to do as well.

The striker, who scored against Hamilton, looked way off the pace, struggling to get himself involved into the game. He had just 17 touches of the ball, which was by far the lowest of any starter for the Hoops, and made just a measly seven accurate passes out of the ten that he attempted.

But perhaps most worryingly for Lennon, is that Griffiths didn’t even look to make himself a nuisance for the St Mirren defence, instead looking lethargic and disinterested – he competed in just one duel, and lost that, and made no tackles, interceptions or clearances whatsoever, showing no signs of wanting to press from the front or work hard.

Even despite it being a disappointing campaign overall for the striker, he has still managed to win 1.7 duels per match in the Scottish Premiership – a number he was nowhere close to getting on Saturday.

In the end, Lennon had seen enough, and even despite seeing his side trailing at the half-time break, he saw fit to take his centre-forward off and replace him with Tom Rogic.

If ever there was a statement of just how badly wrong things have gone at Celtic Park, then the club’s abject display at home to a side who are 20 points below them in the table said it all.

Duffy might well be the go-to man to blame, especially given his recent awful performances, but Griffiths was arguably just as bad if not worse on Saturday afternoon.

A cada ano que passa, o Nova Iguaçu vai colhendo os talentos da base. Para a disputa da Copa Rio de Profissionais, no mês que vem, a Laranja da Baixada terá à disposição mais uma safra nova de frutos da terra: oito atletas que disputaram o Campeonato Carioca Sub-20 foram integrados nesta segunda-feira ao elenco principal.

As novidades são o goleiro Bruno, o zagueiro Prachedes, o lateral-esquerdo Lucas, os volantes Victor Hugo e Ronald e os atacantes Sampaio, Ferreira e Jean. Três deles já tiveram a oportunidade de vestir a camisa do time principal – Bruno, Lucas e Sampaio. Além deles, o lateral-esquerdo Cleyton também chegou a integrar o elenco de juniores, mas disputou a maior parte do Campeonato Carioca pelos profissionais.

– O Nova Iguaçu ratifica mais uma vez sua política de transição de juniores para o profissional. Aproveitamos esses jogadores sempre com cautela, análise e muita coerência. Eles demonstraram que têm condições de ajudar na Copa Rio e vamos dar essa rodagem a eles com o objetivo de prepará-los também para o Estadual do ano que vem. Acreditamos muito neles – explica Vitor Lima, vice-presidente de futebol do clube.

Ao contrário dos três anos anteriores, o Nova Iguaçu não conseguiu o objetivo de atingir a final de pelo menos um turno do Estadual Sub-20. Mas chegou perto. Acabou o Carioca na sexta colocação geral, três pontos apenas atrás do Fluminense, quarto colocado. A equipe dirigida pelo técnico Armênio Moura ficou a um ponto de se classificar para as semifinais da Taça Rio.

– Esse ano tivemos uma renovação nos juniores muito positiva, com um ótimo aproveitamento do sub-17 para o sub-20. Realizamos uma ótima campanha, jogamos o segundo turno todo com muitos atletas no primeiro e segundo anos da categoria. E eles deram uma resposta muito boa. O Nova Iguaçu se sente no direito de dar oportunidade a esses garotos que passaram por várias etapas no trabalho de formação – ressalta Vitor.

A garotada que veio do juniores chega a praticamente um mês da estreia do Nova Iguaçu na Copa Rio, marcada para o dia 27 de agosto, contra o Bonsucesso, no Laranjão. A Laranja da Baixada, que tentará seu terceiro título, está no Grupo D, que conta também com Cabofriense, Tigres do Brasil e Portuguesa.
