Ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes his former team are not getting carried away by their start to the Premier League season – and has warned that one big injury could ‘severely hamper’ their quest for the Premier League title.

Liverpool, without a top-flight championship since 1990, have made a perfect start to the new season with eight wins from as many games, and have opened up an eight-point lead over reigning champions Manchester City.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Carragher appeared cautious when speaking of the Reds’ latest title bid, highlighting City’s problems with injuries in defence – and warned that a similar story at Anfield could hurt Liverpool’s chances of ending what would be a 30-year hoodoo.

He said: “I think what we’re seeing with Manchester City now is they’ve been affected by injuries in the same position – that’s a problem for them, that’s a problem for anyone.

“And they’ve got a better squad than Liverpool’s, so you see how much it’s hurting them, so you’d actually think it may hurt Liverpool more if they had injuries because I don’t think they quite have the squad that Manchester City have.

“There’s no doubt a big injury to a big Liverpool player would severely hamper them, so that’s why I don’t think anyone in Liverpool is getting too carried away.

“There’s no doubt when Laporte’s back and City get back on their feet, they’re the team capable of doing exactly what Liverpool are doing right now in terms of [winning] 17, 18 games.”

There is no need to justify Carragher’s comments – City are fully capable of going on the record run which Liverpool are poised to equal ahead of their match against Manchester United next weekend, having only achieved it themselves when they romped to the title in 2017/18.

City’s lack of depth in defence may be being exposed given their uncharacteristic run of results, with their defeat against Norwich – just two weeks after losing Aymeric Laporte to injury – being their first in the league since January.

Though perhaps Carragher and Liverpool can rest a little easier in the sense that they dealt with the long-term blow to toe-to-toe with City in his absence, and have since juggled their defensive lineups in recent weeks to stay perfect.

That, along with their existing lead over the champions, suggests the initial signs may well be positive for Liverpool.

Looks like we’re fully into transfer rumour season now.

And former player David Prutton believes that the great start Nottingham Forest have made this season can act as a building block when it comes to any deals they want to do in January.

What’s he said?

Speaking to Nottinghamshire Live ahead of the game against Wigan Athletic this weekend, the former Forest man said that if the club wanted to make a move in January they should be confident of getting players over the line.

He claimed the prospect of being so close to the Premier League will help them attract players to push them over the line:

“They’ll find themselves in a good position, and I’m not just being biased because I’ve played for the club. If Forest are in the top six and looking like they’re hunting down the top two in January, then with the stadium buzzing and the atmosphere being fantastic – it’s a great city, you’d be hard-pressed to not attract players of a certain standard to a situation like that.

“You’d come in and be playing in front of 30,000 people every other week at home, and it would just be (a great opportunity) to get that club into the Premier League.”

Got to stay there though

Whilst Prutton may be right in believing that being so close will make them a tantalising commodity for any prospective player, it is now up to the Forest players and staff to make sure that they keep them there.

As the pundit suggests, doing so could just enable them to complete attractive signings, something that ultimately could propel them to the promised land of the Premier League.

Sabri Lamouchi recently stated that his main ambition this season is to stay in his job for one full season.

Whilst that may be the case, there is one way of making sure he stays in the job, and that’s to get promoted.

It’s something that makes these next couple of games so vitally important for Forest, not just in terms of this season and making sure they’re close to promotion, but also a long way in the future.

If they can bring in a couple of big names, not only will they be in a good position to contest this season, but if things don’t work, they’ll be in a great place to challenge next term as well.

Liverpool announced on Monday afternoon that teenage forward Jack Bearne had signed his first professional contract with the club.

A lot of time has been dedicated to talking about Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

However, among the post-match discussions, the Reds dropped the news that Bearne had committed his future to the club.

The 18-year-old ‘played a significant role in the success of the Under-18 team last season’, according to a statement on Liverpool’s official website.

Bearne had actually made the step into the Under-23s during pre-season but has been on the sidelines in the early stages of the 2019-20 campaign due to an ankle problem.

The length of the contract has not been disclosed, but the Reds must rate the striker if they are prepared to hand him a professional deal.

وأردف: “بعد مباراة أستون فيلا أمس وإصابة محمود تريزيجيه تواصلت مع أخيه لأطمئن عليه، واللاعب سيجري عملية جراحية في لندن، ولو احتاج أي أحد من أفراد الجهاز الطبي للمنتخب سيتواجد معه”.

واستكمل: “مسألة انتماء الحكم سواء أهلاوي أو زملكاوي ليست مؤثرة في العمل، الناس يقولون استقطب حكم أجنبي و-ريح دماغك-، لكن أنا من طبيعتي أتصرف بمسؤولية”.

واستطرد: “طالما أنا مقتنع أن الحكم المصري يمكنه إدارة المباراة فلما لا، لأنه حان الوقت لكسر المسلمات ونفعل ما لم يكن يستطيع فعله أي اتحاد أخر”.

وواصل: “ما المشكلة أن يدير الحكم المصري مباراة القمة بين الأهلي والزمالك وهي بدون جماهير وفي وجود الفار، ستكون مباراة سهلة بدون ضغوط وليست مباراة فاصلة في تحديد الفائز بالبطولة، ولدينا حكام رائعين يمثلون مصر في كل المحافل”.

وأتم: “أطمئن الجماهير، لن تقام أكثر من مباراة في يوم واحد خلال مسابقة الدوري العام، المباراة ستنقل بكاميرات كثيفة، وسيكون هناك تنسيق مع كل الجهات الأمنية، وستكون هناك مراقبة دولية لطاقم تحكيم مباراة القمة، ومعيار العدالة والنزاهة سيكون متوفرا في المباراة”.

Sheffield Wednesday winger Kadeem Harris has heaped praise on his fellow summer arrival Julian Borner after the impact he has had on their season so far.

What’s he said?

Both players joined the south Yorkshire club on free transfers during the off-season under former boss Steve Bruce, and despite two managerial changes, they have been two of the standout stars for the Owls.

Harris has scored two goals and assisted two more in 12 starts while Borner was handed August’s Player of the Month award after two league clean sheets.

Last Friday, the German netted his first goal for the club in their 1-1 draw at Cardiff City as he volleyed home from Harris’ own strike after just 19 minutes.

Speaking about Borner’s impact, the 26-year-old said:

“Julian has been tremendous this season, every single game, I think it was a brilliant move, but we can both give a lot more than we have so far.

“I am not surprised at his start to the season. I saw him in pre-season and saw his love for the game, how much he wanted to do well here.

“He has had a good start and hopefully he can do even better with the games to come.”

Added threat

Borner’s strike was one you’d expect from Steven Fletcher or another attack-minded player as he struck a sweet volley past the Cardiff goalkeeper.

But based on his career exploits, it is something that Wednesday fans should get used to as he has a knack for finding the net.

In four of his last five seasons in the Bundesliga 2 for Aminia Bielefeld, the 28-year-old has found the net at least three times with his best season earning a goal return of five in 2017/18.

Over the course of his career, Borner has netted 36 goals in 292 appearances, per Transfermarkt, which is quite an excellent return for a central defender.

He should get plenty of opportunities to add to that given that 0.6 of their 1.1 assists come from either a cross or corner each game, via WhoScored.

وعن إمام عاشور، أوضح: “ما سنقوم به الفترة المقبلة هو نقل خبراتنا له، مرت عليه مواقف كثيرة صعبة جدًا وكلها تعتبر سلبية، ولا بد أن نقف وقفة جيدة ونساعده في الفترات المقبلة”.

وأتم: “اللاعب يتعرض لضغوطات كثيرة، في فترات قصيرة جدًا، وردود أفعاله لا بد أن يتحكم فيها”.

كشفت تقارير صحفية بريطانية، أن نادي تشيلسي الإنجليزي يخطط للتعاقد مع نجم بوروسيا دورتموند الألماني الشاب، جودي بيلينجهام.

According to journalist Matt Maher, who writes for the Express & Star, Aston Villa will be without Jack Grealish for tonight’s EFL Cup game with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 24-year-old had to be replaced in the latter stages of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City having picked up a calf issue.

However, according to Maher, whilst the Englishman will miss out against Wolves, he could be fit to face Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

It is doubtful whether Grealish would have been included against Wolves even if he were fit, but it would be big news if the skipper missed out against Liverpool.

Everton fans have expressed their desire to see Cenk Tosun up top after his late equaliser against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Turkey international smashed home a thumping header in the 97th minute of the game at Goodison Park. However, with Newcastle United’s win over West Ham United, the Toffees now sit 17th in the table, just one point above the relegation spots.

Tosun’s goal was his first for the club since he last scored against Spurs back in May. His late strike does now bring him to 10 goals in 47 appearances since he moved to Merseyside.

Fans now want to see the 28-year-old start more often with many supporters saying he deserves a spot in the side.

It is clear to see why the Everton faithful want to see Tosun more often, as the club have scored just 11 times in 11 Premier League games this season.
