A rampant Nottingham Forest side retained the Brian Clough Trophy as well as securing their place in the Carabao Cup third round with a 3-0 victory over rivals Derby.

One fan believed the Reds were in trouble if Lewis Grabban got injured whilst a further member of the City Ground crowd claimed the 6 foot 3 forward had a ‘mare,’ comparing him to a young Daryl Murphy.

Mir has assisted two goals this season but is yet to get on the scoresheet.

Another supporter stated that the 22-year-old was the only negative from last night as he is wasting too many chances.

Neil Lennon has said that Celtic got a good deal when they sold Kieran Tierney to Arsenal during the transfer window.

What did he stay?

The Gunners targeted the Scotland international for much of the summer, and even had two bids rejected as they pursued him.

However, they finally got their hands on the 22-year-old on deadline day. In the end, Celtic received £25m for the left-back, which is the highest fee ever paid for a Scottish Premier League player.

Whilst he may have been a star for the Bhoys, manager Lennon believes that it is a good bit of business for the Glasgow-based outfit, saying:

“I think overall we are healthy. We have spent some money and brought some quality players in shrewdly.

“We’ve also made a really good sale of a top player and we got top dollar for him. It has been a very good window. I think we are strong.”

Did Arsenal get a good deal?

As part of the treble-treble-winning side, Tierney has written himself into Celtic folklore. Such were the level of his performances, there was certainly a feeling that he had outgrown the club north of the border.

However, it is certainly questionable whether Arsenal really did get a good deal. He may be a talent but that can only be proven when he is on the pitch. Once again, he is currently out injured, and it is a running theme during his short career. No matter how much quality he has, if he is unable to appear, then what is the point in him being at the club?

There is also the question of whether he can handle the pace and intensity of the Premier League. In Scotland, Celtic are so far ahead of the rest it is almost unhealthy. Since 2014-15, they have won the league by at least nine points in every season and one year, the gap to second was 30. How hard will it be for him to adapt and find his place in a side that needs to compete every weekend if an easy route to the title is all he has ever known?

It is also a significant outlay – he is the 11th-most-expensive player ever to join the north London outfit -and following the sale of fellow left-back Nacho Monreal, there’s huge pressure on this acquisition to pay off.

Time will tell whether Arsenal will get their money’s worth. But, as Lennon suggests, perhaps Celtic got the better end of the bargain.

Georginio Wijnaldum has been given a new lease of life on international duty, and his form for the Netherlands could lead to a change in the way he is used by Liverpool.

The 28-year-old was once a goalscoring midfielder whilst playing in his native country and even scored 11 in his year at Newcastle, but since making the move to Anfield his box-to-box style has restricted his opportunities in front of goal, scoring just 13 times in 145 appearances.

For his national team it has been a complete contrast of late, and Ronald Koeman has been able to get the best out of him since he took over, with the midfielder scoring five and assisting three in his last ten games for the national side.

Moreover, each of those games were competitive fixtures, with Wijnaldum helping himself to two goals against Germany and one against France, thus proving to be one of the most important players for the Netherlands.

He has been effective for Liverpool this season but in a much different style, breaking up play for the Reds with an average of one interception per game, and keeping the midfield ticking over with 90% pass accuracy.

With Fabinho and Jordan Henderson operating in a similar fashion, Jurgen Klopp could look at Wijnaldum’s international form and grant him a license to get into attacking positions. He has shown on occasion for Liverpool that he has finishing instinct, and without his two goals against Barcelona they would never have won the Champions League.

In the recent round of fixtures the former PSV man scored the Netherlands’ fourth goal against both Germany and Estonia, and the attacking intent he displayed suggests he could be a threat for Liverpool if given the opportunity to take up positions in the opposition box.

Although he was playing against lesser opposition in comparison to those he would come across in the Premier League, Wijnaldum showed that playing in a more advanced role does not cause his involvement in the game to reduce, with an impressive 59 touches across 90 minutes as per SofaScore.

His energy can be vital to Klopp’s style at Anfield and he is a reliable source for the Reds in winning back the ball and retaining possession, and he evidenced that side of his game against Estonia by winning the ball six times.

His 91% pass accuracy shows how effectively he uses the ball and he has improved in that area of his game since joining Liverpool, as he averaged a pass success rate of 84% in his time with the Magpies.

If he can take up similar areas for his club side then he should be able to get on the scoresheet more regularly, and if he does that he could become an even more important player for the Reds.

This Sunday there could be a host of former Leeds men facing off against their old employers.

Mallik Wilks, Clarke Oduor and Aapo Halme now currently reside within Barnsley’s ranks.

Following the conclusion of the international break, they will be just three members of Daniel Stendel’s team attempting to put a dent in the Whites’ aspirations.

Leeds suffered their first defeat of the Championship season against Swansea two weeks ago so will be looking to bounce back against a team who have scored the joint-fewest of anyone in the division.

But where might the key battles lie?

On the chalkboard

Coincidentally, one of Leeds’ former players could be one of the main men that stands in the way of victory.

Rather neglected under Marcelo Bielsa last term, appearing just five times, Halme looked assured in defence for the Reds when they drew 0-0 with Wigan.

That was his first start of the campaign in the league but after that performance it wouldn’t be unlikely if he played from the off again.

Throughout that clash he won eight aerial duels and also completed five clearances so he’ll have to be at his similar best against a higher quality outfit at the weekend.

It’s in the air where Halme might have the biggest say, especially against striker Patrick Bamford.

The former Middlesbrough man isn’t exactly too physical and he might be overawed by the challenge of facing the Finn who stands at 6 foot 5.

In terms of aerial duels, the 21-year-old is streets ahead of Leeds’ top scorer, as evidenced by the graphic above courtesy of stats from WhoScored.

His other stats are fairly low as Halme has only started once but the lack of interceptions in that time may allow Bamford to get away with the number of unsuccessful touches he has each outing.

The 25-year-old has netted four times this term but has been found wanting in front of goal. Against Nottingham Forest he wasted six opportunities so it’s hardly a surprise he’s attracted criticism and praise from fans in 2019/20.

If he does end up getting the better of Halme, he’ll have to be far more composed in front of goal.

The promising ex-Leeds man showed why he was initially brought over to England in Barnsley’s last outing but for various reasons, his potential battle with Bamford will be crucial.
