Everton fans call for Bramley-Moore Dock stadium to hold 60,000

[ad_pod ]

The Toffees recently announced a period of public consultation over the plans for a new stadium based in the Bramley-Moore Dock.

The £500million project would see Everton leave Goodison Park for a new home that the club hopes will regenerate North Liverpool and be a landmark setting in the region.

Called ‘The People’s Project’, the public hearing is acting as the first formal stage in the process of submitting planning applications, which will be formalised next year.

On Thursday, the Twitter account for the campaign asked supporters to submit their thoughts on what the capacity of the new home should be, and fans were clear in their outcry for what they deem a suitable request.

Some noted how other sides such as Manchester United have extended their ground over the years to meet demand and others compared Everton to West Ham, who recently moved home to a larger venue.

In the original plans prior to the delay, it was believed Everton proposed a stadium capable of holding between 50,000 and 55,000 although no designs were ever released.

This is what these Toffees fans have had to say on the matter…

Embarrassing derby day defeat can help Jose Mourinho’s Man United future

[ad_pod ]

Old Trafford or out, Manchester United must decide whether the club will back or sack Jose Mourinho.

The Red Devils head into the international break in a dismal eighth place – already an appalling 12 points behind Pep Guardiola’s league-leading Manchester City.

Derby defeat last Sunday to their bitter rivals could act as the final nail in Mourinho’s northwest coffin, but that could prove costly with suggestions the board will be forced to shell out £12million for early termination.

The former Chelsea coach has already made more than £30m throughout his career from being sacked at the London club alone, most recently when Roman Abramovich could take no more and signed off £8.3m in 2015.

At least for the meantime, Mourinho’s job at Old Trafford appears safe. A recent report in The Sun suggests that Champions League football next season is critical and is where the line will be drawn.

That, however, does not make overnight solutions to crucial issues the 55-year-old is claimed to have with United’s set-up behind the scenes. The Sun believes Mourinho deems the recruitment and scouting networks to be light years behind their rivals, and recent travel arrangements have caused mounting anger.

If Manchester United are to keep the faith in Mourinho being the man to guide a resurgence against City’s stranglehold on the Premier League, or at least secure Champions League football, the board must back their man and derby defeat will only strengthen his case for immediate changes.

It was widely reported in the summer that the former midfielder was unhappy with who he was able to bring to the club, signing Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant in a £74million splurge but missing out on a key central defender.

A focus on Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire, Jerome Boateng and Yerry Mina all came to the same conclusion and the season kicked off with Old Trafford outcast Eric Bailly lining up alongside Victor Lindelof.

ESPN now understands attentions are turning to Serie A and both Milan clubs, with Mourinho demanding United show he has a Red Devils future by signing Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan and Alessio Romagnoli from AC Milan, who both would harness hefty transfer fees.

At the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, Manchester United set out almost as if they had no intentions of trying to win. Sitting behind the ball in a classic Mourinho way of parking the bus, often hoping for a corner or free-kick to present an opening to score.

The only issue with that was United could not do enough to stop City from creating chances themselves, all too happy to sit back and pass the ball around knowing they would not be rushed in a gegenpressing fashion. When a United player tried to shut someone down they simply cut a lonely figure.

A rare Red Devils attack more often than not showed the same thing. A lonely figure longing for someone to come short and offer support rather than dawdle into the box in case a cross would come in as the wide man found himself swamped by Guardiola’s recruits.

Either the players were not listening to the message coming from their boss or Mourinho has lost faith in his players. Regardless, something must change for results to turn around. And again, Mourinho can stake his claim to a January sales extravaganza if he is the man to steady the ship heading into another iceberg.

Without Paul Pogba, one of the few men capable of sparking life into a game singlehandedly, Marouane Fellaini was called on to offer support to Nemanja Matic in sitting in front of the back four. Shifting side to side in strictly defined roles, the duo did their best to block out more of the pitch but as the 3-1 scoreline suggests, their efforts proved futile and in truth the result could have easily been wider.

A lack of alternatives when a key star is injured just goes to show Mourinho will need to strengthen not only the defence but also those charged with controlling the space across the pitch. The manager had one bullet in his chamber and clearly no plan ‘B’ when David Silva’s 12th minute opener showed it would be a long afternoon.

So what will it be, United? Keep the man in charge discontent with what resources he has or seek a fresh solution to return the most decorated club in England to the forefront of the Premier League.

Changes behind the scenes to scouting and recruitment will help to appease Mourinho should that be the route best seen as a return to Sir Alex Ferguson’s glory days, but it will also poise the club ready for the next man up and whatever the future has in store.

Either way, that future will need to hold changes whether it is manager or players, a costly situation United find the club in as Manchester rivals City flourish under the one who got away.

Darren Moore’s dilemma ahead of Swansea trip tonight

According to The Birmingham Mail, West Brom midfielder Chris Brunt is in contention to return to the line-up tonight against Swansea.

The Northern Irishman has missed The Baggies’ last two games, but manager Darren Moore says that he is well poised to return to the team, alongside veteran Gareth Barry.

However, in Brunt’s absence, Moore has turned to James Morrison, as well as a slight tweak in formation.

Morrison has thrived in the heart of the midfield for The Baggies alongside Jake Livermore, and now Moore has to ask whether he should drop the Scotland international, or try and find a way to accommodate Brunt as well.

Whether Moore returns to the formation that served him so well at the beginning of the season is yet to be seen. This set-up consisted of having two central midfielders, but at this stage in the season, Morrison was not necessarily in the picture. However, his good form has forced Moore to rethink his options, meaning he may need to stick to the 4-3-3 shape that has been deployed in previous weeks.

The trouble is, with so many high-level attackers, some good quality players will need to accept being on the bench in this current West Brom team if Moore is to play with three central midfielders. The manager cannot really afford to not play someone like Matt Phillips, but it becomes hard to find a place for him if Livermore, Brunt and Morrison all play.

In all fairness, this is the sort of dilemma that Moore would have wanted at the beginning of the season.

Angelo Ogbonna was West Ham’s unsung hero in victory over Cardiff City

West Ham supporters have been in high spirits in recent times after seeing their side pick up a second consecutive Premier League victory on Tuesday night.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men went into their encounter with struggling Cardiff City off the back of easing past Newcastle United 3-0 at St James’ Park on Saturday, and thus seeking to back that up with another three points at the London Stadium. And they did just that as a brace from Lucas Perez alongside a Michail Antonio effort inspired the hosts to a 3-1 win on Tuesday night, thus moving them nine points clear of the Premier League’s bottom three.

Thus, there have been many thrilled Hammers fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have been piling on the praise for striker Perez, who came off the bench and made a massive difference against Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds, netting his first two league goals for the club following his arrival from Arsenal during the summer.

And while there is little doubting that the 30-year-old played a vital role in West Ham’s success on Tuesday, £70,000-a-week ace Angelo Ogbonna (as per Spotrac) was the real Hammers hero for his excellent display in the heart of Pellegrini’s backline.

The 30-year-old has fallen behind Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena in the centre back pecking order but was restored to the starting line-up on Tuesday for only the third time in the league this season, and he repaid Pellegrini’s faith with a commanding display against a tough Cardiff team.

The Italy international had 64 touches of the ball against the Bluebirds and finished the clash with a healthy 83% pass success rate (as per WhoScored), with only Diop, Mark Noble, and Felipe Anderson completing more passes for the hosts over the course of the 90 minutes.

So not only did the defender show quality on the ball, he also didn’t lose possession once during the game, but he was up the task off it as well against a strong and sometimes direct Cardiff team, what with Ogbonna winning a team-high nine aerial duels during the match.

Add in one interception, three clearances, and three blocks, and the 30-year-old clearly read the game brilliantly to help negate the threat posed by Warnock’s men, who certainly gave Pellegrini’s men something to think about throughout a goalless first half.

Yet Ogbonna stood up to the task and delivered a solid and accomplished display at centre back, vindicating Pellegrini’s decision to select the Italian ahead of fellow centre back Balbuena, who did go into the clash as a fitness doubt.

Nonetheless, while Perez’s goals proved crucial for the Hammers, it was the defensive resilience shown by Ogbonna which proved he was the real West Ham hero on Tuesday night.

Opinion: Samir Nasri deal would be worst since Simone Zaza joined West Ham

West Ham United supporters were expecting great things from Simone Zaza when he arrived at the club in the 2016 summer transfer window, but the standard of his performances far from mirrored pre-season expectation.

Zaza was unquestionably one of West Ham’s worst signings in recent years. The Italy international joined on an initial season-long loan deal, but his time in east London was cut short in January after he failed to score in 11 appearances for the club before a knee injury left him sidelined throughout December.

Fortunately the financial implications of the deal were not overly disastrous for the club, but it appears that the club have failed to learn their lesson following recent reports detailing their interest in Samir Nasri.

According to the Daily Mirror, Manuel Pellegrini is still keen on securing a January reunion with Nasri if he proves his fitness in the coming weeks, with a weekly salary of £80,000 per week reportedly on the cards.

Now, for a 31-year-old known troublemaker, who has been absent from professional football for the entirety of 2018, a contract worth £80,000 per week is verging on farcical.

West Ham may well feel that they need to bolster their options in attacking midfield, particularly given the lengthy absence of Manuel Lanzini and Jack Wilshere’s injury troubles, but they must invest in a talent for the long-term future rather than a player who is well past his best.

A deal bearing a similar resemblance to the one currently being eyed by West Ham was completed last year when Patrice Evra moved to the London Stadium, and that proved to be pointless at best.

Perhaps the signing of Jordan Hugill is regarded as the worst signing in recent memory but, considering Zaza’s reputation upon his arrival compared to his incredibly lacklustre performances, it’s fair to say that he was the most disappointing and underwhelming of the two strikers.

But if Nasri eventually signs for the club it’s difficult to see his spell being anything other than an incredibly underwhelming waste of money, so the club should abandon their pursuit, unless, of course, Nasri significantly slashes his wage demands.

Liverpool fans react as Grujic dominates on loan spell

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Liverpool fans have been giving their verdict on the future of Marko Grujic, as Jurgen Klopp’s first Liverpool signing is excelling on loan in the Bundesliga.

The move for Grujic has been almost completely forgotten about by many Liverpool fans, as the Serbian international has played just eight times in the Premier League, most of those as a substitute.

Klopp and his ex-partner in crime Zeljko Buvac were big fans of the 22 year-old though, and he is now showing exactly why with Hertha Berlin.

Paul Pogba and Man Utd seem to be after Harry Redknapp’s ‘King of the Jungle’ crown! Check out the video below…

The tough-tackling youngster was brilliant for Cardiff City last season, and his loan spell in the Bundesliga in working absolute wonders.

He is winning 3.4 aerial duels and 2.1 tackles per game, while also averaging 1.9 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.9 successful dribbles per game.

He capped off an incredible performance with the winning goal in a 1-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, prompting his manager to call him the best midfielder the club has had for two decades.

“I’ve been at Hertha for 22 years,” said the boss after the win over Frankfurt. “This isn’t meant as an insult to anyone else, but Marko is by far the best midfielder I’ve seen in my time at the club.”

Fans are excited to see what Klopp can get out of the youngster when he returns to Anfield, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Aston Villa should move for Alfredo Morelos

[ad_pod ]

Alfredo Morelos has been in excellent form for Rangers this season, and Aston Villa should move for the forward at the end of the season if they are promoted to the Premier League.

What’s the word, then?

Morelos joined Rangers from Finnish club HJK in the summer of 2017, and the forward has proved to be an absolute revelation at Ibrox.

Indeed, the Colombia international has scored 35 goals in 72 appearances for the Gers in all competitions, including 17 strikes in 29 matches this season.

Last month, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard insisted that he would ‘fight tooth and nail to keep’ Morelos at the club for as long as possible.

Gerrard conceded that ‘every player has his price’, however, and it seems unlikely that the Gers will be able to keep hold of the forward on a long-term basis.

The 22-year-old, who also has 10 assists to his name this season, only signed a new deal with Rangers in September, but Villa should attempt to sign him at the end of the season if they are promoted to the Premier League.

How are Villa going in the Championship?

Eight wins, eight draws and five defeats – that is how Villa have performed in the Championship during the 2018-19 campaign.

A total of 32 points from 21 matches has left them in eighth position, just four points off the top six, and 10 points off second-placed Leeds United.

It is difficult to imagine that Villa will not be involved in the playoff picture at the end of the season when considering their improvement under Dean Smith.

Indeed, Villa are unbeaten in the league since the end of October.

Tammy Abraham has been excellent for the team this season, but it seems likely that the forward’s future is with Chelsea.

As a result, Villa will need a new forward to lead them into the Premier League if they are promoted, and the club should certainly take a punt on goal machine Morelos.

Everton should sign Jack Butland to provide Jordan Pickford competition

Jordan Pickford’s recent blunders should put Everton on red alert, but Marco Silva’s goalkeeper crisis can be resolved with Stoke City’s Jack Butland.

What’s the word?

Pickford went from strength-to-strength upon his arrival at Goodison Park after relegation with his childhood Sunderland side, topped by a key role in England’s glorious 2018 World Cup quest.

But since the Premier League returned to action, the 24-year-old has been at fault for as many goals as any other player in England’s top-flight – only Bournemouth and Arsenal’s shot-stoppers, Asmir Begovic and Bernd Leno, had as many heading into the Boxing Day fixtures.

Two of the Toffees’ number one’s mishaps have proved costly beyond the points, as well, with the Merseyside Derby slipping in Liverpool’s favour with the final worthwhile touch of the game and defeat to Manchester City highlighting a lack of leadership in the ranks.

A possible cause for Pickford’s mental lapses could be a lack of serious competition for the role.

Maarten Stekelenburg is the only other senior goalkeeper on Everton’s books, while 22-year-old Mateusz Hewelt and Arsenal product Joao Virginia are yet to play a first-team game.

Stekelenburg, now 36 years of age, will never rival Pickford for a starting spot, but Stoke City star Butland can.

Check out the video below to see how Brazil fans reacted to being asked how Cristiano Ronaldo would perform for them in a hilarious prank by Playmaker FC…

Why Jack Butland?

The Potters £19.8million rated goalie had kept eight clean sheets heading into Boxing Day, and remains a top-tier talent despite his side’s relegation to the Championship last season.

His relegation did not affect his World Cup call-up, and nor should it cause Everton to hesitate to lure the 25-year-old to Goodison Park.

The Toffees showed they were not afraid to splash out on a goalkeeper who had just been relegated when they signed Pickford for £30million, and Stoke’s man can ensure his international teammate stays on his toes knowing he could be replaced if his performances do not pick up.

Prior to Boxing Day, Butland had recorded 66 saves in the Championship, and is capable of playing out from the back with 258 accurate short passes.

Any move, unfortunately, would cost Everton a high figure, with The Telegraph reporting Stoke aim to hold off any bid under £50million.

Let us know in the poll below if you’d like to see Butland at Everton…

Revealed: 51% of Everton fans want to sign Munas Dabbur

Loads of Everton fans have been eyeing up potential striker targets for January, and just over half of the fans that voted in our poll want to sign Red Bull Salzburg superstar Munas Dabbur.

According to Football Whispers, Liverpool are “closely monitoring” Dabbur as they continue to search for a reliable back-up for Roberto Firmino.

If the red-hot striker is eyeing up a move to the Premier League however, he should surely be looking for a team that will allow him to start, not simply warm the bench for an already established player.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below...

Everton of course are absolutely crying out for a clinical goalscorer, as it really feels like the Toffees are a top quality number nine away from challenging the top six.

Dabbur may be plying his trade in an inferior league with Leipzig, but ten of his 20 goals so far this season have come in the Europa League, so he is more than capable of lighting up the Premier Leaguel.

20 goals and six assists at this point of the season is truly remarkable, and his movement, work rate and overall link-up play would fit perfectly alongside players like Richarlison.

You can view the full poll results down below, where just over half of fans think they should move for the Liverpool target…
