Arsenal fans react to Ivan Gazidis’s exit

Arsenal fans have had to endure a period of change in recent months, the most significant of which saw the end of Arsene Wenger’s long spell at the Emirates Stadium and led to the appointment of Unai Emery.

Many fans got the response they wanted from the club with those changes and it lead to an expectation of split responsibility in North London, with Emery and CEO Ivan Gazidis playing a crucial part in the development of the club.

However, that is now not the case as Arsenal have confirmed that Gazidis has finally come to a decision on his future and will join AC Milan in December, ending months of speculation about his position with the Gunners.

Gazidis’ exit is rather surprising considering the push for power he has fought for in recent years and it leaves Arsenal looking to fill another major role, which could lead to further implications later down the line.

Aston Villa fans react to Ross McCormack’s departure

Aston Villa have struggled to find consistency so far this season but ended a run of five consecutive matches without a win by beating Rotherham on Tuesday evening.

Three points from that clash have eased the pressure on Steve Bruce’s side but there is still a lot of work to be done in the promotion push this season – and fans will be hoping that the club’s spending harbours more success than in previous years.

Villa spent a fee of £12m to bring Ross McCormack to the club from Fulham in 2017, but he has since scored just three goals in 20 league appearances and last featured for the club over 12 months ago in August 2017.

McCormack spent part of last season on loan with A-League side Melbourne City and has now returned to Australia, signing with Central Coast Mariners on a season-long loan deal.

The departure sees Villa offload a misfit from their squad and plenty of fans gave their reaction to the deal on social media.

Andy Halliday has been through plenty of ups and downs as a Rangers player and supporter.

The midfielder spent three years at his boyhood club during his youth career and then later down the line in 2015 he signed for the club.

At times, Halliday has been a scapegoat for Rangers’ failings from his own supporters on Twitter, but this season he has had a revival under manager Steven Gerrard.

The 26-year-old has made six appearances in all competitions so far, and he has started five of them.

On Wednesday night, Halliday captained the Gers to a 4-0 win over Ayr United, which resulted in progression to the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup.

The midfielder played a vital role as he created two assists over the course of the victory.

On Twitter, some fans were quick to praise Halliday for his performance, and a few gave credit to Gerrard for improving the player’s all-round game since the ex-Liverpool captain became manager.

Tottenham fans on Twitter raving over superb Lamela display

Once again, Erik Lamela left the pitch yesterday with his head held high as one of the best performers wearing a Tottenham shirt against Barcelona. His goal in the second half was the least he deserved and he’ll be keen to build on that and continue to add to his four goals he’s scored this season.

The season so far is yet to see the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen hit their best form. Thankfully, Tottenham’s passionate Argentine, Lamela has been on hand, alongside Lucas Moura, to deliver the level of performance that The Lilywhites have come to expect from their side over the last few years. The 26-year-old has proven invaluable to the Mauricio Pochettino and you can’t help but feel like the best is yet to come from Lamela.

His goal and assist last night had Wembley rocking and despite Lionel Messi’s brilliance, it was a different Argentine that the Spurs fans were lauding after the game. Lamela’s form goals this season have been celebrated greatly by the fans and it seems the supporters are finally seeing the Lamela that they thought they’d signed back in 2013. His highest goal tally in a single season at Tottenham so far stands at 11 from the 2016/16 season and with four to his name already this season, he’ll be keen to smash that tally of 11 out of the park.

You can read The Lilywhites’ verdict on Lamela here:

The praise for Lamela from the Spurs fans is endless and now it will be time for the 26-year-old to continue his purple patch into the coming matches against Cardiff and West Ham.

According to a report by TEAMtalk last month, Tottenham Hotspur have been hugely impressed by PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn and are considering making a move for the 21-year-old.

The report says that Spurs have switched their attentions away from Ajax duo Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong, who are valued at around £100m, and they are instead keen on a pair from another Eredivisie side in Bergwijn and Jorrit Hendrix.

The former has certainly been in impressive form for PSV so far this season having scored five goals and provided a further four assists in 13 appearances in all competitions, meaning he now has 15 goals and 19 assists in 91 outings for them in total.

His showings earned him his first full Netherlands international call-up earlier this month following his bright start to the campaign, and manager Ronald Koeman decided to name him in the starting line-up for the massive UEFA Nations League fixture against Germany in Amsterdam on Saturday.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”307212″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch The FPL Show Beat the price rises and ride the wave”]

It was a huge opportunity for the 21-year-old and while his nation ran out remarkable 3-0 winners against one of their oldest and biggest rivals, he didn’t have the impact that he and Koeman would have hoped that he would have.

The attacker failed to have a single shot or produce a single cross against the 2014 world champions who exited the 2018 World Cup at the group stage, while he only made one key pass in his 67 minutes on the pitch before he was replaced, as per WhoScored.

In that time he had just 27 touches in total and failed to make the most of the ball with a passing accuracy of just under 67%, showing that not only is he not ready to be a regular starter for his country right now, but also that he isn’t ready for a move to a club like Tottenham Hotspur where the pressure will be on him to produce consistently.

Newcastle fans are so right: Jamaal Lascelles’ recent England snub is absolutely baffling

Newcastle United supporters have been pretty downbeat in recent times after seeing their side suffer a sixth Premier League loss of the campaign at the weekend.

Rafa Benitez’s men went into their clash with Manchester United off the back of picking up just two points from their opening seven league games of the season, and thus sat precariously in the bottom three. And that is where the Magpies remain despite racing into a two-goal lead at Old Trafford through Kenedy and Yoshinori Muto, with goals from Juan Mata, Anthony Martial, and Alexis Sanchez sealing a remarkable 3-2 comeback victory for Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils.

Thus, there have been many disappointed Newcastle fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have taken to Twitter to bemoan Gareth Southgate’s decision to again opt against calling up Jamaal Lascelles to his England squad, with Brighton’s Lewis Dunk getting the nod.

And having somehow failed to earn a place in the squad at any point last season, those Newcastle fans are so right to express their disappointment for the 24-year-old, with his recent snub just as baffling as those that have gone before.

Ultimately, the former Nottingham Forest defender was an absolute rock in the heart of Benitez’s backline last season in helping the Magpies ship just 47 goals from their 38 Premier League matches, which was fewer than every side that finished below seventh place in the division.

And while Benitez certainly got the best out of his defensive unit last term, it was Lascelles’ authority and overall leadership qualities which seriously helped the North East giants throughout the course of the campaign, while the centre back also came up with some crucial goals in victories over Swansea City and Stoke City to underline his influence in both boxes.

In fact, it was arguable that there were few better English centre backs than Lascelles for large parts of last season, which made his exclusion from every single one of Southgate’s squads, including that for the World Cup, absolutely baffling.

And while Brighton’s Dunk does indeed deserve a chance on the international stage, 24-year-old Lascelles is another who has started the season reasonably well to also earn that opportunity – he may not have performed as well as he did last term, but nor have Newcastle.

And with the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling struggling for form at United, Gary Cahill having retired, and an injury to Burnley’s James Tarkowski, this was as good a chance as any for Lascelles to make his way into Southgate’s reckoning, which makes it all the more baffling as to why he isn’t in the squad for Nations League games against Croatia and Spain.

As such, those Newcastle fans are right to bemoan Lascelles’ exclusion from the recent England squad, as it is indeed absolutely baffling.

Tottenham fans react to latest de Ligt reports

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Tottenham fans have been reacting to the latest transfer news, as reports claim they actually had a bid rejected for the highly-rated defender Matthijs de Ligt.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are now in the driver’s seat to wrap up a deal for de Ligt, but Tottenham did have a €50m (worth around £44m currently) bid rejected during the summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old Ajax centre back has drawn suitors from all over Europe due to his incredible composure and leadership at such a young age, and Spurs were heavily linked with a summer move.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”307232″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Germany Hit New Low & Jadon Sancho Makes Us Feel Old”]

While fans were understandably frustrated by their lack of summer business, it seems Daniel Levy was working hard to bring in the Dutch wonderkid, perhaps even working on the assumption that Toby Alderweireld would leave the club.

Alderweireld has looked back to his old self this season, but it remains to be seen if the big Belgian will sign a new contract in North London.

De Ligt looks like the perfect replacement if Alderweireld does leave, but Levy will have to up the bid quite considerably to beat out Barcelona.

Plenty of fans have been giving their verdict on the reports, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Jordan Houston is the long-term replacement for James Tavernier

Steven Gerrard’s start to his Rangers career has been pretty good as not only has he guided the club through a tough European Qualifying campaign but also made a solid start to the league as The Gers sit fifth, eight points off league leaders Hearts with a game in hand.

The former Liverpool boss looks set to be the long-term boss as the club and has so far been surprisingly good as a manager. Gerrard looks set to be the manager for the next few years and with that in mind, he’ll be looking towards bringing in players for the future.

Although at times this season club captain James Tavernier has put in some solid performances, the 27-year-old has also looked fairly shaky at the back and against Spartak Moscow he had a fairly average performance and seemingly struggled to beat the first man from his corner deliveries.

With the full-back being 27, now is the perfect time to bring in a youngster to learn from him and gain experience. One youth team player that could fill that void is Rangers academy right-back Jordan Houston.

The youngster signed a new long-term deal with the club over the summer. A deal that will see him contracted until 2o2o. The 18-year-old is yet to make a first-team appearance for the club but was included on the bench for Rangers’ 2-1 loss to Dundee last season.

At the moment, he may still be a bit off the first-team but the Scotland Under-17 international is still the one to eventually replace Tavernier.

Tottenham fans react to £35m move for Doucoure

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Tottenham fans have been reacting to this week’s big transfer rumour, as reports claim they are one of several teams chasing Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure.

According to The Mirror, Tottenham have joined the race for Doucoure as concerns grow about the future of Victor Wanyama.

The North Londoners are expected to lose Mousa Dembele when his contract expires next summer, and losing Wanyama as well would leave them incredibly light of options in midfield.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”326259″ player=”12034″ title=”Liverpool Or Chelsea For The Title Forget it!”]

Doucoure has this week been the subject of interest from Liverpool, Arsenal and PSG, as reports in France claimed Watford were seeking around £35m for their midfield colossus.

The 25 year-old was sensational for the Hornets last season, and has started this campaign in fantastic form as well, racking up four league assists already.

Only Bouremouth’s Ryan Fraser and Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy can boast more assists so far this season than Doucoure, and tons of fans have been giving their verdict.

Between the Lines: Xande Silva fires a message to West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United signed 21-year-old Xande Silva during the summer transfer window, but despite the Portugal U21 international being yet to feature in the first team he has told Manuel Pellegrini that his “time will come”.

What did he say?

According to reports emerging in Portugal the winger, who has represented his country at every junior level between Under 15 and Under 20, has said he is not concerned about his lack of first team action.

A reporter from the paper version of A Bola, as picked up by SportWitness, caught up with the former Vitoria Guimaraes player.

In the interview, Silva stated: “Here I am in a new culture, different, both socially and in football.

“It’s much faster. ‘How can you play so calm?’ Some of my teammates ask me.

“This is a great experience, here there are all the conditions for a Portuguese player to play, you just have to stay focused.

“[Manuel Pellegrini] is a good manager, with great experience, which he has acquired in the great clubs where he’s been.

“My time will come.”

What does this mean?

Despite moving to a new country at 21 on the back of 26 appearances in the Primeira Liga, accepting he needs to stay focused and be patient as part of the Irons academy suggests Silva has got the mind to make it.

When he signed in the summer, he was always likely to be kept as part of the U23 squad to aid his development before being brought into the first team.

The sudden promotion given to 20-year-old Grady Diangana could easily have destabilised his mindset, but instead he has used it as an opportunity to remind Pellegrini that he is waiting in the wings as well and that he should be picked.

What now for him?

Further games in the academy is the natural home for Silva, but if he manages to impress Pellegrini he could easily earn a call-up for the early FA Cup rounds or even as a substitute in the Premier League.

If he does make the breakthrough anytime soon then it could be bad news for Toni Martinez, who is currently at a similar stage in his career on loan in Spain.
