£40k-p/w Arsenal Man Sends Mikel Arteta Clear Message

Emile Smith Rowe reiterated his intention to break back into the Arsenal side next season after scoring in back-to-back games at the Euro U-21 Championship.

The midfielder found the back of the net in England’s 2-0 victory over Czech Republic to seal all three points late on, before doing the same against Israel as the young Three Lions look to ease past the rest of Group C.

Up next, England square off against Germany, who lost to Czech Republic last time out after picking up a point in their opening game against Israel.

What’s the latest on Emile Smith Rowe?

As the majority of the Arsenal squad enjoyed a season to remember last time out, Smith Rowe endured his most frustrating campaign yet, struggling with injuries, form, and game time.

Left with no choice but to have groin surgery at the start of the season, the England midfielder missed 13 games as a result, while the Gunners got off to a flying start in the Premier League.

With Mikel Arteta’s side thriving even in his absence, Smith Rowe struggled to get back into the side – making just 12 appearances in the league.

His absence may have made people forget about his potential, but, ultimately, this is a 22-year-old who scored 10 league goals from midfield just the season prior. If Smith Rowe can get a run of games under his belt, then his top form should naturally return.

The academy graduate’s struggle for game time may not be helped by the reported arrival of Kai Havertz. However, even after this development, he has shown signs of life for England U21s.

There’s certainly going to be plenty of competition for places at the Emirates next season.

What Did Emile Smith Rowe say about Arsenal?

As you can see by the goal below, Smith Rowe – who is paid £40k-p/w – looks far closer to his best for the young Three Lions, perhaps ready to compete for his place in Arsenal’s side.

Speaking after the game, the midfielder told the press (via BBC reporter Alex Howell) about his desire to get back into Arteta’s team as well as winning this tournament.

He said: “My main focus is getting into the Arsenal team, but first we want to win the tournament.”

Jamshed provisionally suspended by PCB

Jamshed has become the third player to be provisionally suspended by the PCB as the board continues its investigation into the corruption scandal that has hit the ongoing Pakistan Super League

Nasir Jamshed, the out-of-favour Pakistan opener, has become the third player to be provisionally suspended by the PCB as it continues its investigation into the corruption scandal that hit the Pakistan Super League this weekend.”PCB has provisionally suspended Nasir Jamshed from all forms of cricket for violating its anti-corruption code,” said a statement issued by the board on Monday.Unlike Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif – the two Islamabad United players who have already been sent back from the league for alleged breaches of the anti-corruption code – Jamshed was not part of any PSL franchise.Jamshed’s name had cropped up initially in speculation surrounding the news of Latif and Sharjeel’s suspensions. But the exact nature of his involvement has not been made clear. The PCB named three other players who were questioned in the fallout: Islamabad United’s Mohammad Irfan, Quetta Gladiators’ Zulfiqar Babar and Shahzaib Hasan of the Karachi Kings. None of them, however, faced the prospect of immediate provisional suspension. Shahzaib’s questioning, according to his team Karachi Kings, was the result of his reporting an approach to the PCB and Quetta are understood to have volunteered Babar for questioning to clear his name as it had also emerged during speculation.Sharjeel, Latif and Jamshed will now be sent a show cause notice by the PCB according to board chairman Shaharyar Khan.”There is a legal way to move forward and first show cause notices are being sent to both players (Sharjeel and Latif) and they are likely to receive it tomorrow,” Khan said in Lahore, before the news about Jamshed emerged.”Two players Shahzaib and Zulfiqar were under the scanner but are cleared and free to play. Irfan, however, is still under observation but he hasn’t been issued any show cause notice so far.”But probably in a day or two he will also be served. Apart from these five players I confirm no other player playing in the PSL is related to this issue.”It is likely the PCB will then set up an inquiry committee involving one or more judges. Not that long ago, Jamshed was Pakistan’s first-choice opener in limited-overs cricket, and with three ODI hundreds against India between March 2012 and January 2013, one with a potentially long career ahead of him.Since then, however, a dip in form and confidence has pushed him to the periphery. Between the end of the India series in January 2013 and the start of the 2015 World Cup, Jamshed scored 458 runs at an average of 19.91 with only two fifties, featuring in 23 of Pakistan’s 50 ODIs in this period. Before this, he had averaged 50.26 in 22 ODIs since his debut, scoring 955 runs, with three centuries and six fifties. His last appearances for Pakistan were miserable ones at the World Cup: he made only five runs in three matches. An indicator of how far he has fallen was evident by his absence from the PSL in both seasons.Overall, Jamshed has played two Tests, both against South Africa in February 2013. In 48 ODIs between 2008 and 2015, he scored 1418 runs at 31.51. Jamshed played only 18 T20 internationals, scoring 363 runs.

Rangers: Beale Could Land Morelos 2.0 In £4m "Jewel" At Ibrox This Summer

When Glasgow Rangers signed a relatively unknown Colombian called Alfredo Morelos in the summer of 2017, all Pedro Caixinha was expecting from the striker was that he replicated his form for Finnish side HJK Helsinki, where he had scored 46 goals in just 62 appearances.

He certainly exceeded expectations.

Despite scoring just 12 goals and finishing his final season at the Light Blues trophyless, Morelos had done enough in the previous five campaigns to go down as something of a cult hero among the Ibrox faithful.

He became the highest-ever European goalscorer for the Gers, taking the accolade from club icon Ally McCoist, while helping Rangers win their 55th league title but eventually, all good things must come to an end, with the 27-year-old leaving the club upon the expiration of his contract.

The onus is now for Michael Beale to source a replacement for Morelos during the transfer window and although Sam Lammers has arrived to bolster the attacking options, he isn’t the sort of player that can replace Morelos’ goals.

Could they perhaps lure Benie Traore to Ibrox this summer? As the youngster has been linked with a move to the club and the Gers have already had a £2.8m bid rejected by Swedish outfit BK Hacken according to Alan Nixon of The Sun (via Glasgow Live), with an offer of £4m preferred.

Could Benie Traore be the next Alfredo Morelos at Rangers?

There is no reason why the youngster couldn’t turn into Morelos 2.0, especially with his potential move to Glasgow sharing some similarities to that of the 27-year-old.

Firstly, Traore would arrive at Rangers aged just 20. The Colombian was also 20-years-old when he arrived in Scotland, joining a few days before his 21st birthday and his youthful nature certainly didn’t impact his performances on the pitch, scoring 18 goals in his debut season.

Secondly, Traore has shone for Swedish side BK Hacken over the previous three seasons, scoring 24 goals in 56 appearances and although not quite as prolific as Morelos during his tenure in Finland, it shows he has a clear eye for goal and could certainly make an impression at the Gers by joining from a Scandinavian club.

Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.

This suggests he has everything in his locker to become the heir apparent to the former Rangers hitman and with talent scout Jacek Kulig lauding the forward as a “jewel” and “talented” just last month, Beale should be giving Hacken what they demand for the player to get a move over the line as soon as possible.

The success of Morelos has shown that signing players who have performed well in countries such as Finland can pay dividends and there is no doubt that Traore could become the next big attacking talent at the club should he make the move in the coming weeks.

Shield return puts Cummins in Ashes frame

The Australia fast bowler will play his first Sheffield Shield match in nearly six years and says he wants to play with no restrictions and without having to worry about his fitness

Daniel Brettig06-Mar-20171:39

Playing Shield cricket one of my goals for the year – Cummins

Pat Cummins will officially return to contention for a place in Australia’s Ashes team for next summer when he plays his first Sheffield Shield match in almost six years, for New South Wales against South Australia at the SCG from Tuesday.Cummins made his state debut at 17 and his Test debut later that year, before a series of foot and back injuries prompted the national selectors and Cricket Australia’s medical staff to drastically alter their plans for him.Now 23, Cummins’ body is approaching a point of maturity that is hoped will reduce his risk of injuries, after the fashion of the incumbent Test bowlers Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. As such, he is now in line to play in the Shield for the Blues and possibly Australia A in South Africa later this year ahead of next summer’s home Ashes series.”There’s the Ashes, which is a goal for probably everyone playing Shield cricket this year at the moment,” Cummins told reporters in Sydney. “I think for me getting back into first-class cricket was the No.1 goal for the year and I’m absolutely pumped to be back. I think if I get through these games then hopefully next year I can start off the year just like any other cricketer.”Cummins’ bowling action has gone through numerous adjustments over time, while his range of skills and experiences have broadened to add to his capabilities this week. While Cummins always demonstrated exceptional intelligence for a fast bowler, as evidenced by his memorable display against South Africa at the Wanderers on his 2011 Test debut, it has taken time for his body to catch up to his mind.”Probably given the extra week that we waited after the T20s has just given me a chance to prepare for the game once I got back in the frame for playing Shield cricket,” Cummins said. “I just wanted to go in [to Shield cricket] with no restrictions and not have to think about my body really, so all good.”I feel like I’m a lot more consistent now than I probably was a couple of years ago, and I think that’s put down to a few things. I think having a long pre-season, I was able to just work on quite a consistent rhythm and tempo rather than trying to bowl 180kms every ball.”I think the beauty of red-ball cricket is the ball normally swings out here [in Sydney]. After some rain hopefully it might seam around a little bit so actually bowling within yourself that 5 or 10% can actually provide some better results. Pace is one tool a bowler uses, but it’s not the be-all and end-all.”NSW have also added the English wristspinner Mason Crane to their squad for the match after a series of stand-out performances in Sydney grade cricket. However, the same overcast and damp weather that may aid Cummins to swing the ball may work against Crane’s chances of a Shield debut as the second spinner behind Will Somerville’s off-breaks.The Blues need to win both their remaining matches outright to have a chance of making the Shield final, while their opponents South Australia are in second place and can solidify their own chances with victory at the SCG.

Pundit Reacts To "Amazing" Celtic Transfer News

Pundit Alan Hutton has been reacting to Celtic transfer update involving Gangwon FC forward Yang Hyun-jun.

Is Yang Hyun-jun joining Celtic?

The Hoops have made a start on their summer business, with midfielder Odin Thiago Holm and winger Marco Tilio both signing five-year deals at Parkhead from Valerenga and Melbourne City respectively.

There have also been some outgoings, with midfielder Aaron Mooy announcing his retirement and winger Jota signing for Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad in a deal worth £25m.

New manager Brendan Rodgers is set to be handed a £30m transfer kitty by Celtic chiefs ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, and it looks as if some of those funds could go on bringing Gangwon FC forward Yang to Glasgow.

The 21-year-old has been on Celtic’s radar in recent weeks, with an offer submitted last month. A fee in the region of £2.1m fee was agreed between the two clubs, however, it looked as if Gangwon were open to keeping the player until the New Year when their season came to an end.

There appears to have been a breakthrough over a transfer, though. Gangwon are now ready to allow the forward to leave immediately, adding that Yang's transfer "remained a matter of time". Yang himself is keen on a move and has previously said that he would give his salary in order to seal a move:

"Celtic is a good offer, so I want to go. I have to do my best as a member of Gangwon. But I think the desire to go will still be there.

"I want to go to Celtic this summer. I hope Gangwon will allow me to transfer. If the transfer fee isn’t enough, I’ll even give my salary."

What has Alan Hutton said about a potential move?

Taking to Football Insider, Hutton, who contributes to Sky Sports, was talking about Celtic and Yang and the fact the player is so keen to join the Hoops that he would give up his salary.

The former Scotland defender said he wouldn’t do that, adding that Yang must be “desperate” for the transfer, describing it as “amazing to read”.

“I wouldn’t. He must be desperate to make the move.

“It is another one of those transfers that has got Postecoglou’s name written all over it. I can’t imagine Brendan Rodgers coming in and knowing too much about that league.

“It is something that the player is obviously desperate for. It is amazing to read something like that.

“We are hearing about people going to Saudi for millions a year and this player is willing to give up his salary to make a move which is the polar opposite.”

Should Yang get his wish and move to Scotland, he would provide Rodgers with a versatile option as he is primarily a right-winger who can also play on the left or through the middle.

He could be just what is required, especially following Jota’s departure, and by the look of things, Yang is willing to go far in order to sign for the Hoops in what could be another shrewd coup be the club when it comes to the Asian market.

Stirling, Balbirnie keep series alive for Ireland

Paul Stirling’s 99 – his third consecutive fifty – and an unbeaten 85 from Andy Balbirnie took Ireland to a six-wicket victory in a must-win third ODI

The report by Varun Shetty19-Mar-2017
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details
Andy Balbirnie’s unbeaten 85 was Ireland’s first middle-order fifty in the series•Associated Press

Ireland’s hankering for a resistant middle order was finally satisfied by Andy Balbirnie, as the right-handed batsman struck his fourth half-century – an unbeaten 85 off 74 balls – to take them to a six-wicket victory in the third ODI. It was their first victory of the tour and kept the series alive at 2-1 with two ODIs to go.At least two of Ireland’s top three had scored fifties in the first two ODIs. That pattern was quickly erased by Dawlat Zadran who dismissed Ed Joyce and William Porterfield off consecutive overs to reduce Ireland to 24 for 2 by the end of the sixth. But Paul Stirling continued to stand in their way, cutting out the risks early as he dug in to put on 96 for the third wicket with Niall O’Brien (30), and got to his third-consecutive ODI fifty in the process. He put on a further 59 with Balbirnie for the fourth wicket, before falling one run short of another hundred. This time, he missed a straight one from Mohammad Nabi and lost his off stump. His wicket, however, wouldn’t bring another collapse. On the contrary, Ireland lost no further wickets. Gary Wilson’s run-a-ball 28 did enough to complement his younger partner, who spearheaded the unbroken 86-run stand as he scored Ireland’s first half-century from the middle-order in this series. Afghanistan dropped three catches to help Ireland along in the chase, but the neutralization of legspinner Rashid Khan, who went wicketless, will have made them feel most vulnerable. They did have Rashid to thank, however, for keeping them in the game in the first place.A ten-ball first over from Peter Chase belied the start to come for Afghanistan. Chase and Tim Murtagh made run-scoring difficult for Afghanistan’s top order on a slow pitch. By the 11th over, three of them had fallen playing away from the body, and one had swiped across the line. Mohammad Nabi was given the marching orders when Stuart Thompson got a finger on the ball before Samiullah Shenwari’s straight drive broke the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Afghanistan were reduced to 67 for 5 after electing to bat. Shenwari and Gulbadin Naib’s painstaking 30-run stand for the sixth wicket ended nine overs later, leaving Afghanistan’s lower order nearly 24 overs to contend with. Rashid and Naib played 16.1 of those and put on 97, getting fifties before falling in the space of four balls. Ireland wouldn’t have minded that fight at 193 for 8, but Shafiqullah, who would’ve come in at No. 7 normally, struck a 28-ball 50 at No. 9 to set Ireland a target of 265.

Sky Sports reporter issues big Harry Kane transfer update at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur will 'reject anything' in the way of bids for talisman Harry Kane as they look to keep him in north London for this season, according to journalist Michael Bridge.

Which clubs are keen on signing Tottenham star Harry Kane this summer?

SPORT BILD via The Daily Mail report that Tottenham are expected to reject an £85 million offer from Bayern Munich for Kane following their decision to knock back an initial offer of around £60 million for the England international's services.

The outlet claim that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is believed to be infuriated by Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel due to his approach in negotiations and will aim to make the German giants 'bleed' if they are to be successful in their attempts to land Kane.

Manchester United were very keen to sign Kane earlier on in the window; however, they pulled out of trying to sign the £200k-a-week ace to avoid being embroiled in a frustrating transfer saga similar to that of Manchester City's failed bid to sign Kane in the summer of 2021.

Erik Ten Hag is hoping to add a central striker to his ranks ahead of this term getting underway competitively and he now looks to have turned his attention towards Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund, as per The Telegraph.

Tottenham have offered Kane a 'massive new contract' that would see his wage increase significantly at the club amid his current deal being set to expire in 2024, though he is in no rush to commit his future to the club as his situation continues to hang in the balance, as per The Guardian.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Bridge is certain that Tottenham will reject any incoming bids for Kane in this transfer window.

Bridge said: "What I can say is, if that bid [Bayern's one] has gone in, it would have been rejected — and Tottenham will pretty much reject anything. It would have to be something crazy, over £100m, for Daniel Levy to even consider it.

"He's so important to the football club. He scored 30 goals in a team that finished eighth. It's pretty unbelievable, really. I know [Erling] Haaland's got all the plaudits, but I just can't believe he got that amount of goals in a very poor Tottenham side last season."

Will Harry Kane stay at Tottenham Hotspur?

It's the million-dollar question; put it that way. Time will tell if Kane does stay at Tottenham for the foreseeable future and whether any other interest in his services comes to the fore before the end of the transfer window.

Losing Kane could harm Spurs' hopes of getting back among the elite in English football this season. Last term, the 29-year-old was in fine form for Tottenham, registering 32 goals and five assists in 49 appearances across all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

Tottenham forward Harry Kane is wanted by Bayern Munich.

Kane's potency was on full display in 2022/23 and the London-born striker averaged 3.4 shots per match in the Premier League, according to WhoScored.

Bringing others into play when occupying deeper positions is also a key trait of Kane's game. As per FBRef, Kane successfully carried out 159 shot-creating actions combining his exploits in the Premier League and Champions League.

Looking ahead, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou will be desperate to keep Kane around as he gets to work at Hotspur Way and looks to turn his side's fortunes around.
