Liverpool's pursuit of Alexis Mac Alisster seems to be speeding up with the Merseysiders preparing a five-year contract, according to reports in the player's homeland.
There has been little to get excited about for fans of Liverpool this season. After seeing them come within 20 minutes of beating Manchester City to the Premier League title last term, the dropoff since has been quite remarkable. Jurgen Klopp guided his side to 92 points but ultimately fell short as Man City dramatically won the title on the last day, with that deflation bleeding into the current campaign.
Now, however, with the transfer window beckoning, there is cause for excitement once again.
Are Liverpool signing Alexis Mac Allister?
Domestically, reports linking Liverpool with a move to sign the Brighton midfielder have intensified in the last week, and now a journalist from the player's homeland is breaking new ground.
TyC journalist German Garcia Grova says: "Liverpool advancing in the hiring of Alexis Mac Allister. Last contract details until June 2028. The world champion communicated to Brighton his desire to emigrate in this next market."

Does Mac Allister solve Klopp's problems?
While injuries and ageing personnel have been a big issue in the centre of the park this season, the main issue holding Liverpool back is a lack of technical excellence. Thiago aside, Klopp doesn't have a truly masterful midfielder to call upon, which explains the decision to move Trent Alexander-Arnold into a central midfield role when in possession.
This creates other issues that haven't been punished yet but remain a problem. Such as the need to shift Ibrahima Konate out to right back when in possession to cover for Trent's new hybrid role.
By signing a player like Mac Allister – someone incredibly comfortable under pressure – Liverpool's midfield quality would be drastically different.
Take Jordan Henderson as an example. While his strength has never been orchestrating play, his comparative lack of ability on the ball compared to Thiago or Mac Allister means Liverpool fail to play out of danger even when there is an available pass out of danger.
Mac Allister's display against United on Thursday was the perfect example of what Liverpool have been missing. His stats paint a beautiful picture as he was Man of the Match long before his perfectly struck penalty hit the top corner in the 99th minute. He played 59 passes with a completion rate of 92% and won three tackles at a 100% win rate.
Masterful passing and reliable tackling have been missing from Liverpool's midfield this season and as a result, they have suffered. Adding Mac Allister won't return the glory days to Anfield immediately, but it's a step in the right direction especially if Jude Bellingham won't be joining the club.
Natalie Sciver converted her maiden ODI century into a blistering innings of 137 from 92 balls, and Heather Knight, the captain, also passed three figures for the first time in limited-overs cricket
The Report by Andrew Miller27-Jun-2017England 377 for 7 (Sciver 137, Knight 106) beat Pakistan 107 for 3 (Ayesha 56*) by 107 runs – DLS Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsNatalie Sciver brought up her maiden ODI century off only 76 balls•PA Images
Natalie Sciver converted her maiden ODI century into a blistering innings of 137 from 92 balls, and Heather Knight, the captain, also passed three figures for the first time in limited-overs cricket, as England dusted themselves down after their opening-match defeat against India to rack up a formidable total of 377 for 7, and a commanding if rain-interrupted 107-run victory over Pakistan at Grace Road.England’s total was their highest in a World Cup match, and second only to Australia’s tournament record of 412 for 3 against Denmark in 1997. But it didn’t seem entirely on the cards during a cagey first ten overs, in which England lost both of their openers, Sarah Taylor and Tammy Beaumont, to the erratic but occasionally penetrative swing bowling of Kainat Imtiaz. At 42 for 2, the hosts still appeared to be suffering from a certain degree of stage fright.Sciver and Knight, however, took it upon themselves to stamp their authority on the innings. In June last year, Sciver had played an integral role in England’s last great statement performance, against the same opponents at Worcester, by smashing 80 from 33 balls to apply the finishing touches to what remains, by one run, England’s highest total in all ODIs.On that occasion, Sciver had arrived at the crease in the 39th over, with full licence to have a swing, following a formidable opening stand of 235 between Beaumont and Lauren Winfield (who was once again missing from today’s match with a wrist injury). This time, although she turned on the after-burners late in her stay with three consecutive sixes off Asmavia Iqbal, her initial duty had been one of consolidation. Steadily at first, but with increasing intent, she and Knight bent England’s innings back into shape, and Pakistan’s prospects decisively out of kilter, with a stand of 213 in exactly 30 overs.Sciver’s poise at the crease is the source of her formidable power, and two brusquely dismissed straight drives in her first six balls were an ominous sign for Pakistan, whose impact faded as the new balls lost their shine and the change bowlers their lines and lengths. The left-arm spinner, Nashra Sandhu, was treated with disdain as Sciver helped herself to four consecutive fours – including one off the toe of the bat through third man – to rattle through to a 35-ball fifty, and having nudged calmly through the nineties with a diet of singles, she drilled Sadia Yousuf into the covers to bring up her maiden hundred from 76 balls.Knight, whose 46 against India had given her team a glimmer of hope in their opening defeat against India, nailed an early drive through the covers to settle into her new day’s work, but she stepped up the ante when Sana Mir entered the attack with her offspin. Using her feet with good intent, she dumped a lofted drive through long-on for four, before picking off two more fours in her next over, with a paddle behind square and a thump through point. And, just as she had done against India, Knight also led the way in clearing the ropes, cracking a brace of sixes over cow corner en route to her own century from 105 balls. She fell one over later, caught in the deep for 106 as she launched Asmavia to wide long-off, but Danni Wyatt was on hand to keep England’s impetus going. She finished unbeaten on 42 from 27 balls, with five fours and a six over midwicket, although Pakistan saved themselves from conceding a new record total by chiselling out Fran Wilson and Jenny Gunn in consecutive deliveries in the penultimate over.In reply, Pakistan battled hard but were unable to make much headway in the face of England’s towering total. Katherine Brunt, who had born the brunt of Smriti Mandhana’s onslaught in the India match, settled much more quickly into her day’s work by extracting two early wickets – Nahida Khan, caught pulling a long-hop to midwicket for 3, and Javeria Khan, brilliantly bowled by devious slower ball for 11.Ayesha Zafar refused to be cowed, and kept going for her shots, cracking eight fours in total in reaching a 67-ball fifty. But Alex Hartley pinned Asmavia Iqbal lbw as she danced down the crease and missed a hoick across the line, and the contest was dead in the water long before the Grace Road rains applied a literal interpretation.
Leeds United's first game under Sam Allardyce went about as well as fans could have hoped, travelling to face Manchester City in what is arguably one of the toughest fixtures in world football.
However, given the 68-year-old had only enjoyed a limited time in charge before what was his first game, it marked a fine showing against the soon-to-be Premier League champions.
Despite falling two goals down, and seeing a potential third squandered from the penalty spot, the former Bolton Wanderers boss ended the game with a respectable 2-1 scoreline as Rodrigo grabbed a late consolation.
The tactical tweaks at halftime limited the hosts tenfold and showcased the experience on display in the away dugout. However, they will need more than spirited performances to ensure survival is earned, with just three games remaining.

From that encounter, very few players would have stood out to the new boss, though the Etihad rarely breeds any fine away showings at all. However, winger Jack Harrison in particular continued his torrid form by putting in comfortably the worst display out of anyone on the pitch.
If Allardyce values his fine relegation-avoiding record, he must brutally ditch the 26-year-old as he has struggled all campaign.
How has Jack Harrison played this season?
As one of the team's main creative threat, having made 33 appearances for the Whites this term, the lack of consistency from the versatile wide man has frustrated fans and the media alike.
Just four goals and seven assists in the league have him as the club's third top scorer, behind Luis Sinisterra, who has endured an injury-hit debut campaign, and the ageing Rodrigo.
After his first goal of the season, the Englishman would then go 20 league games before scoring again. He is currently in the midst of another six-game barren run in front of goal too.
As such, his 6.75 average rating is desperately disappointing considering the impact he had enjoyed during the season prior as they narrowly avoided the drop.
Harrison would score eight times that campaign, including a final-day winner at Brentford that secured the crucial points to send Burnley back to the Championship in their place.
The £50k-per-week speedster saw a culmination of his miserable year in Manchester last weekend, as his 5.9 rating gave way to just 15 touches and one completed pass all game, via Sofascore.
Pundit Jon Newsome put it best after a similarly shocking performance at Everton earlier in 2023, where he told BBC Radio Leeds:
"Nothing came off for him. I thought his touch was poor. His awareness was poor. He didn’t seem at the races."
Sadly, this could apply to an entire season that has been laced with inconsistency and disappointment, so he must merit being dropped at the hands of Allardyce.

The Supreme Court has accepted most of the Lodha Committee recommendations covering wide-ranging aspects of the game in India

Ugra: The BCCI will look for legal wriggle room
The Supreme Court has accepted the majority of the Lodha Committee recommendations covering wide-ranging aspects of Indian cricket at the central and state level. It has given the BCCI between four and six months to implement the recommendations and appointed RM Lodha, the former chief justice of India who was the architect of the report, to oversee the transition. The order was delivered on Monday afternoon by the two-judge bench, comprising Chief Justice of India TS Thakur and Justice Ibrahim Kalifulla, which has been hearing the case since January.Highlights of the court order
Recommendations that were accepted ♢ Each state will have only one vote at BCCI elections ♢ Ministers and civil servants cannot hold BCCI offices ♢ BCCI and state office bearers must not be over 70 years old ♢ No person can hold office at the BCCI and state association simultaneously ♢ No person can hold more than three, three-year terms as a BCCI official, and no official can serve consecutive terms Recommendations that weren’t imposed ♢ Bringing the BCCI under the Right to Information Act ♢ Legalising betting in India ♢ Limiting TV advertisements during the broadcast of matches ♢ Making the BCCI fund the proposed players’ association
“In the result, we accept the report submitted by the [Lodha] Committee and the recommendations made therein with such modifications and clarifications as have been set out by us in the body of this judgement,” the bench said in its order. “The transition from the old to the new system recommended by the Committee shall have to be under the watchful supervision of this Court.”The supervision of the transition can, in our opinion, be left to be undertaken by the Committee not only because it has a complete understanding of and insight into the nature of the problems sought to be remedied but also the ability to draw timelines for taking of steps necessary for the implementation of the proposed reforms. We are conscious of fact that the process may be time consuming but we hope that the same should be completed within a period of four months or at best six months from today. We, therefore, request the committee headed by Justice Lodha to draw appropriate timelines for implementation of the recommendations and supervise the implementation thereof.”With these observations we dispose of the matter finally placing on record our deep appreciation for the commendable work which the Committee has done in a short period.”The BCCI counsel KK Venugopal told the court that his client “will show greatest respect in implementing the judgment”. BCCI president Anurag Thakur offered no comment because he said he wanted to study the order first, but IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla said the BCCI would respect the judgement and discuss the procedure for implementation at a meeting.Reacting to the court order, Lodha said he hoped it would be a positive influence on the game. “Great day for Indian cricket and Indian sport, think cricket fans should rejoice the verdict of Supreme Court,” he told ANI.The panel – comprising Lodha and retired Supreme Court judges, Ashok Bhan and R Raveendran – had been formed in January 2015 to determine appropriate punishments for Rajasthan Royals official Raj Kundra, Chennai Super Kings official Gurunath Meiyappan and their respective franchises, and decide on Sundar Raman’s role in the IPL 2013 scandal, and propose changes to the BCCI’s functioning to streamline its functions and prevent sporting fraud and conflict of interest. The most important set of recommendations announced by the Lodha Committee in January this year were accordingly aimed at transforming the BCCI’s power structure. The court accepted the committee’s recommendation of giving each state only one vote in the BCCI’s elections and and removing the vote from associations without territorial definitions (Railways and Services, for example). The court also approved of recommendations that sought to define stringent eligibility criteria for the board’s office-bearers and set limits to their time in office. Ministers and bureaucrats currently holding office will not to be allowed to hold BCCI positions, neither would those officials holding office in their state associations or those above 70 years of age.The committee’s recommendation that there be five elected office-bearers – president, secretary, one vice-president instead of the current five, treasurer and joint-secretary – but that they serve no more than three three-year terms across positions was also accepted by the court; as was the motion to have a “cooling-off” period between terms to prevent an official from holding high BCCI office for several years at a stretch. The Lodha’s report had also recommended that the Working Committee, the BCCI’s highest decision-making body, be replaced with a nine-member Apex Council, which will include representatives from the players’ community – including one woman. There should also be a nominee of the Comptroller and Auditor General to keep an eye on how the board’s vast resources were being utilised. The BCCI was asked to implement all these recommendations. There were three major recommendations made by the Lodha Committee that the Supreme Court did not direct the BCCI to implement. The court did not accept the recommendation to impose restrictions on television advertisements during the broadcast of matches, and it said that the matters of bringing the BCCI under the Right to Information Act and legalising betting in the country were matters for the Indian legislature.
It has been a strange whirlwind of a season for West Ham United – they have dramatically plummeted from a side that achieved consecutive top-seven finishes to one that has laboured through a relegation battle.
Yet again, the shining light of their season has been another glorious European run, which has seen the Irons progress to the Europa Conference League final.
Within this fabulous odyssey, David Moyes has been able to sporadically include certain members of the academy to give them a taste of first-team action.
Their chances of making the senior team have been enhanced thanks to the U18’s incredible FA Youth Cup Final victory over Arsenal – the first time they have won the trophy since 1999.
A vital member of this history-making team was Oliver Scarles, who has already made inroads into Moyes’ plans this season and will be hoping for an even more prominent role next season.
Who is Oliver Scarles?
The teen began playing for the West Ham U18s at just 16 years old in the 2021/22 season and would make 25 appearances in all competitions. Scarles’ immense start to his Hammers career earnt him his scholarship deal last summer.
West-Ham-celebrating-the-FA-Youth-Cup
One of the Englishman’s most sought-after and impressive attributes is his versatility, which has seen him pop up as a defensive midfielder, centre-back, and left-back, as per Transfermarkt.
In 40 appearances in all competitions this campaign, the prodigy has recorded ten goal contributions.
His most memorable outing would have been his senior debut back in November 2022 against FCSB to become the club’s sixth-youngest-ever player and Moyes felt he played “exceptionally well.”
During this encounter, whilst magnificently operating from a left-wing-back role, the ace registered two key passes, 80% pass completion, and won four ground duels.
The former Manchester United boss added:
“We knew about him but you never think they are going to come on but we’ve been pleased. We think he’s stylish on the ball, he’s composed.”
Scarles' chances of featuring more regularly are boosted by his ability to function in various positions. This means he can deputise for either Aaron Cresswell or Emerson at left-back and provide some relief to the humongous void set to be left by likely departing skipper Declan Rice in the centre of the park.
The 17-year-old could follow in the footsteps of the club captain from the academy to a first-team regular and adoring Claret support may have another homegrown talent to endlessly eulogize over.

Aston Villa see Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes as a primary transfer target during the summer transfer window, according to a new report.
Is Barnes likely to leave Leicester?
The Foxes have had a hugely disappointing season by their recent standards, considering they only won the FA Cup two years ago, and were also pushing for a top-four finish at the same time. They look highly likely to be relegated from the Premier League this weekend, with only victory at home to West Ham, coupled with Everton failing to win against Bournemouth at Goodison Park, preventing that.
Should Leicester head back down to the Championship, there is likely to be an exodus of high-profile players, with the likes of James Maddison and Youri Tielemans both almost certain to move on. Barnes is another who would be expected to leave, with the £40,000-a-week attacker scoring 12 goals in 33 league appearances this season.
The 25-year-old's current deal at the King Power Stadium expires in the summer of 2025, but he surely won't be happy heading to the Championship at this point in his career. Villa have been linked with a move for him recently and now a new claim has emerged.
Leicester City's Harvey Barnes
Is Barnes a summer target for Villa?
According to The Express & Star, Barnes is "one of Villa’s top winger targets heading into the summer transfer window". He is "admired by sporting director Johan Lange and a deal could become particularly attractive should the Foxes be relegated from the Premier League". Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams is also mentioned as a potential option.
The Englishman could be a really astute signing by the Villans in the coming weeks and months, having been hailed as "unbelievable" by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in the past. He is now a proven Premier League player, racking up 34 goals and 25 assists in the competition, and he is also someone with one cap to his name for England.
Barnes, who shares the same agency as Tyrone Mings, could provide extra direct running and end product in wide areas at Villa next season, challenging the likes of Emiliano Buendia and Leon Bailey for playing time.
Granted, he may not be able to join on the cheap, given his current contract situation, but he could excel under Unai Emery and his prime years could still be ahead of him, meaning his top level may well be displayed at Villa Park in the future.
