Rangers and Celtic eye Randers ace Odey

Glasgow Rangers are reportedly now fighting their Old Firm rivals to bring a Nigeria international to Ibrox this summer.

The Lowdown: Morelos’ future

The future of Alfredo Morelos is still very much up in the air, and as such Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team may look to bring in a new striker this summer.

They have reportedly already made an offer for Erik Botheim, but they could well move on to other targets if that deal does not progress.

The Latest: Odey transfer talks

As per All Nigeria Soccer, preliminary talks have already been held with Rangers’ sporting director Ross Wilson over a potential move for Stephen Odey, who would cost €4m (£3.4m) to sign from Danish club Randers.

However, the Light Blues’ Old Firm rivals Celtic have made their own approach for him, although no bids have been submitted as of yet.

The Verdict: Wait on Morelos

Rangers need to sort out Morelos’ situation first before going in for another striker.

The Colombia international only has a year remaining on his contract, so he is susceptible to leaving for free next year.

Once dubbed ‘exceptional’ by one of his former managers Fidelis Ilechukwu, Odey has come off the back of a good season with Randers, scoring 14 goals and supplying a further two assists in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

However, the 24-year-old may find it difficult to live up to expectations at Ibrox if Morelos departs in the near future, given the Colombian’s extraordinary return of 113 goals in 224 Gers appearances.

Leeds: Hay drops Adams transfer update

Phil Hay has dropped an update on reported Leeds United transfer target Tyler Adams.

What’s the word?

In a recent article for The Athletic, the Leeds United correspondent confirmed that, following reports claiming that Victor Orta is interested in a deal for the RB Leipzig central midfielder in the summer transfer window, the Whites are indeed tracking the 23-year-old ahead of a potential move in the coming months.

However, Hay also went on to state that Leeds’ potential swoop for the USA international will likely be dependent on whether or not Kalvin Phillips remains at the club heading into the 2022/23 Premier League campaign – with Manchester City reported to be extremely interested in a £50m deal for the England international.

In his piece, the journalist wrote: “A report from Sky Sports in Germany crediting Leeds with an interest in RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams is credible but the club’s next move will be dependent on developments with Phillips. They are yet to receive a formal offer for the England international.”

Huge coup

While it would undoubtedly come as a gutting blow to lose a player of Phillips’ ability this summer, should Orta manage to get a deal over the line for Adams in order to help replace the 26-year-old academy graduate, it would certainly represent something of a huge coup for the Spanish sporting director.

Indeed, earlier this season, Arsenal were reported to be extremely interested in the 23-year-old, with Metro claiming that Mikel Arteta’s side are planning to activate the American’s £32.25m release clause in the summer transfer window – with the Spanish manager believed to be extremely impressed by the midfielder’s positional versatility.

And, it is not difficult to understand why both the Gunners and the Whites would be interested in a move for the 19-time capped international, as Adams possesses a number of the attributes required to be a successful modern midfielder in a pressing system.

According to FBref data, the £26m-rated talent ranks in the top 2% of midfielders in Europe’s big five leagues for blocks per 90 minutes, as well as the top 18% for passes attempted, the top 25% for passes completed, the top 20% for pressures and the top 25% for progressive carries over the past 12 months.

As such, it is evident that Adams is a player who is confident in his progression of the ball, is an extremely skilled passer and works incredibly hard when out of possession – all three of which would appear to suit Marsch’s midfield down to the ground.

So, should Phillips indeed move onto pastures new this summer, while Adams may not quite be at the same level as the England star, he is a signing who would massively soften the blow of waving goodbye to a player as impressive as the Leeds-born legend.

Liverpool learn Bellingham transfer fee

Liverpool have had a long-term interest in Jude Bellingham and have been linked with a move for the player again this summer.

There has now been an update on the details of what Borussia Dortmund would expect from any transfer for the 19-year-old.

What’s the latest?

According to SportBild (via Daily Mail), Bellingham will cost £103m if Liverpool want to sign the player in 2023.

As per the report, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Liverpool have been named as clubs who are interested in signing the youngster next summer, but the Bundesliga outfit have their demands and a price tag which must be met.

It is reported that, due to the absence of a release clause in Bellingham’s contract, Dortmund have given themselves the opportunity to demand whatever transfer fee they deem necessary.

Klopp’s Henderson heir

It is no secret that Liverpool’s midfield is an area in need of refinement, especially after engaging in a transfer battle with Real Madrid for Aurelien Tchouameni last month, so signing Bellingham next summer will likely be an endeavour into which FSG will put a lot of effort in completing.

Jordan Henderson is now 32 years old, and despite his amazing career at Anfield – captaining the team to many trophies and winning the first Premier League title as the club’s skipper – Liverpool need to start looking at the future of the centre of the pitch. Bellingham could be the perfect heir to succeed him.

The Liverpool captain is a big fan of the 19-year-old Dortmund midfielder and has even claimed that “the sky is the limit” for his England team-mate.

In an interview with SPORTBible, the Anfield stalwart said of the teenager: “He’s a great lad, a fantastic player and I’m sure he’ll go from strength to strength as he gets older and matures.

“When I watch him, he plays with such maturity even now. The sky is the limit for him really.”

Bellingham has been proving his worth and justifying his reported price tag during his time in Germany, and last season he continued to impress in the middle of the park for Dortmund.

The young talent – who was dubbed “adventurous” by Michael Owen – scored three goals, delivered eight assists and created 10 big chances in the 2021/22 Bundesliga. He also made 1.6 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game, whilst successfully completing the majority of his dribble attempts (57%) and winning the majority of his duels (51%), as per Sofascore.

The signing of Bellingham would be worth every single penny of his transfer, fee as he’d not only virtually guarantee a decade of performances in his peak, his ability and potential is crystal clear, so FSG must prepare to compete for his signature next summer.

Aston Villa handed green light for Perkins

Aston Villa have been handed the chance to sign promising teenager Sonny Perkins following his recent departure from West Ham United.

What’s the word?

As per the Irons’ official website, the 18-year-old has left the east London outfit following the expiry of his contract, having opted against signing an extension with David Moyes’ side.

His now-former club were seemingly angered by the manner of his exit, however, writing in their statement that they were ‘disappointed’ with the forward’s representatives and are convinced that the youngster has been ‘approached’ by another club.

This follows a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano last month which revealed that both Villa and fellow Premier League side Leeds United have “opened talks” to sign the Englishman this summer.

The West Ham academy product is now free to join a new club, albeit with the east Londoners set to be entitled to compensation as a result.

Rave reviews

There is clearly more than a hint of bitterness regarding the player’s departure from the London Stadium, although much of that frustration perhaps stems from GSB losing out on a highly-rated talent, having endured a very similar scenario with Jeremy Ngakia two years ago.

Their loss could well be Villa’s gain, however, with manager Steven Gerrard set to have an “exciting” prospect on his hands (in the words of Goal’s Tom Maston) who can potentially become a first-team regular in the coming years.

The Liverpool legend, and his predecessor Dean Smith, have already handed chances to the likes of Jacob Ramsey, Carney Chukwuemeka and Tim Iroegbunam in recent times, evidence of a clear pathway for academy graduates to the senior squad at Villa Park.

The indication is that Perkins could well be another youngster to make an impact on Villa’s first-team if he is signed in the current transfer window, having earned “rave reviews” during his time in West Ham’s youth setup, according to club insider ExWHUemployee.

Although the 18-year-old made just three appearances for the Hammers under Moyes, he has showcased his undoubted talent at youth level of late, netting ten goals in just 20 appearances in Premier League 2 during the 2021/22 campaign.

He may well be one for the future more than the present, although the Midlands club could have a real star on their hands in the years to come if they can strike a deal for Perkins.

Wolves transfer news on Silva

Italian football journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now shared some significant Wolves transfer news involving Fabio Silva.

The Lowdown: Wolves flop?

Silva has certainly not lived up to the hype since his club-record £35m move from FC Porto back in 2020.

In 62 games over all competitions across the last two seasons, the striker has only managed a mere four goals and six assists (Transfermarkt), and so could benefit from a temporary move away from Molineux next term in order to try and find his feet.

The Latest: Anderlecht loan

Taking to Twitter, Romano has now shared some transfer news that was first reported by journalist Pedro Sepulveda, in that Silva is now ‘set to sign’ for Belgian side Anderlecht on loan for the next campaign, where they will pay his full wages, adding that Silva has ‘already accepted’ his destination:

“Anderlecht are set to sign Fabio Silva on loan from Wolves. Belgian club will pay full salary until June 2023, as @pedromsepulveda reports. Fabio Silva has already accepted the destination, waiting for the deal to be completed.”

The Verdict: Needed

Silva needs to go out on loan to try and recapture some of the form and hype that saw him play 21 times for Porto before the age of 18, scoring three goals and supplying two assists (Transfermarkt).

The Wanderers have signed Hwang Hee-chan on a permanent deal from RB Leipzig, and with Raul Jimenez another option for Bruno Lage, it is unlikely that Silva would have got much game time next season.

Nonetheless, the now 19-year-old should be able to get more minutes at Anderlecht, and hopefully, come back with a fire in his belly ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Newcastle offered Maxwel Cornet

An update has emerged on Newcastle United and their chances of landing Maxwel Cornet in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

Chronicle reporter Lee Ryder has revealed that the Magpies have been given the green light to snap up a deal for the Ivorian attacker.

He Tweeted: “Maxwel Cornet on list of players offered to #nufc – and shares same agent as many Newcastle clients.”

The Athletic’s David Ornstein previously claimed that the Burnley magician has a £17.5m relegation clause in his contract that will be available for clubs to activate before the end of August.

Imagine him and Allan Saint-Maximin

Now, just imagine how exciting it would be to have Cornet and Saint-Maximin on the wings for the Toon next season.

Both players are dynamic, skilful, players who are capable of making things happen in the final third with their ability on the ball.

The Newcastle winger produced five goals and five assists in 31 Premier League starts for the club as he averaged a SofaScore rating of 6.94. He created seven ‘big chances’ in total and made 1.4 key passes per game as he showed off his ability to score and create goals.

Cornet, meanwhile, caught the eye for Burnley as he played in a multitude of positions; left-back, left-midfield, and striker. The gem, who was dubbed a “fabulous finisher” by Owen Hargreaves, scored an impressive nine goals in 21 top-flight starts, proving that he has the quality to score goals on a consistent basis.

He can offer a huge goalscoring threat out wide and that is something Eddie Howe’s side lacked in the Premier League last term. No winger scored more than five goals and Callum Wilson was the top scorer overall with eight strikes, which means that the Ivorian would have been the standout goalscorer for the Toon.

Imagine Saint-Maximin running down one wing to deliver a cross and Cornet arriving at the far post to finish it off with a volley. They have the potential to terrorise opposition defences and that is why PIF must pounce on this opportunity to snap the Burnley man up in the coming weeks.

Howe must push the board to make this deal happen as they have been given the green light to do so and they can secure a superb, exciting, wing duo in doing so.

Brighton eye Rangers defender Calvin Bassey

talkSPORT journalist and transfer insider Alex Crook has now revealed some Glasgow Rangers transfer news regarding Calvin Bassey.

The Lowdown: Standout season

The 22-year-old has come off the back of a sensational season at Ibrox, making 50 appearances across all competitions in a team which won the Scottish FA Cup and got to the Europa League final against Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt (Transfermarkt).

The Nigeria international was hailed as ‘absolutely sensational’ by talkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy after his performance in that Seville showpiece, and he will likely be one of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s key players once again heading into the new Premiership season.

The Latest: Brighton interested in Bassey

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Crook has revealed that Brighton and Hove Albion are now ‘monitoring’ Bassey, while Ajax are also thought to be interested in his signature.

He tweeted: “Ajax could spend some of their Martinez windfall on #RangersFC defender Calvin Bassey. Understand #BHAFC are also monitoring the versatile left-back.”

The Verdict: Worrying

It is certainly worrying that both clubs mentioned by Crook are now taking a keen interest in Bassey.

Ajax are one of the most prestigious clubs in world football, while Joe Aribo has already been swayed by a Premier League move by signing for Southampton.

Also, with Borna Barisic rumoured to potentially be leaving Rangers this summer, Bassey would remain their only senior left-back available if the Croatian departs, so the 22-year-old would be a very difficult player to replace as the transfer window progresses.

Sunderland making slow progress in Nathan Broadhead pursuit

Progress is slow in Sunderland’s pursuit of Everton forward Nathan Broadhead, according to Sunderland Echo journalist James Copley.

The Lowdown: Broadhead’s Sunderland loan

The 24-year-old spent the 2021/22 season on loan with the Black Cats and made 22 appearances for the Wearsiders in League One, impressively netting ten goals during the campaign.

Many Sunderland fans may feel that his overall tally could have been much higher if it weren’t for his serious hamstring injury, which kept him sidelined for 18 matches.

Having made just two senior appearances for Everton, rumours have emerged linking the attacker with a move away from Goodison Park and a return to the Stadium of Light.

The Latest: Copley’s news

Copley has now revealed the latest development in the Championship club’s pursuit of Broadhead.

Taking to Twitter, the Sunderland Echo journalist claimed: “Understand nothing is imminent regarding Nathan Broadhead to Sunderland. Still interest there following last season but there are other clubs interested in his services.”

The Verdict: Bring him in…

With just a year left on his deal at Goodison Park, a move for the Welshman could prove to be a cheap addition to Alex Neil’s squad, given his £450,000 market valuation.

Scoring just under once every other game for the Wearside outfit in 2021/22, Broadhead knows the manager and the squad well, which surely makes this prospective transfer even more appealing for the youngster.

With Ross Stewart being Neil’s only senior striker at the club, the Everton forward would certainly get the game-time he’s seeking with a move to the Stadium of Light, given the Championship’s hectic schedule.

Therefore, given the two parties’ history with one another, this could be a great move for both club and player.

Nottingham Forest interested in Cornet

Nottingham Forest have been heavily linked with a move for Maxwel Cornet, and now a reliable source has dropped an update on the club’s pursuit of the player this summer.

What’s the latest?

According to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs, Nottingham Forest are still pushing to sign Burnley winger Cornet.

Jacobs tweeted:

“Maxwel Cornet interest has substance, too. Everton & Forest pushing. He was actually offered to Newcastle earlier in window for his £17.5m release clause.”

Supporters will be excited

Forest’s intent on improving their squad over this summer will surely leave supporters excited about the Premier League season ahead, after being outside of top-flight football for 23 years, and the signing of Cornet would be the perfect signing to finish off a successful transfer window for the Reds.

It was reported that Steve Cooper was still keen to sign another striker, and whilst Cornet is not traditionally a striker, the player’s versatility in his positioning would be a very valuable asset at The City Ground this season.

The Burnley star offers experience and reliability across the front three, as well as in the left midfield and left-back role, and his debut season in English football couldn’t have gone better with the Clarets.

Over 26 Premier League appearances, Cornet scored nine goals, delivered one assist and created two big chances, winning 2.8 duels and taking 1.8 shots per game, finishing up the season as the club’s top goal-scorer.

As a result of his impact at Turf Moor, the Ivorian forward was the recipient of high praise with former England international Owen Hargreaves hailing Cornet “one of the best signings of the season”(via Lancs Live):

“He is a fabulous goal scorer and probably one of the signings of the season so far.

“At £12m, it feels like a snip. He gives them something different, he can be direct, can play on the shoulder and is a fabulous finisher, probably better than anyone anticipated.”

With that being said, Cornet could be the positive influence Forest need if he can make a similar or better impact on the newly-promoted side should the powers at The City Ground find themselves able to secure a deal for the player, but with other Premier League clubs interested, Forest will need to act fast.

Sunderland keen on Matthew Hoppe deal

An update has emerged regarding Sunderland’s pursuit of Matthew Hoppe in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

Kristjaan Speakman is reportedly eyeing up a move for the USA international ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, according to MLS insider Tom Bogert.

The reporter has also claimed that one of the Black Cats’ Championship rivals have made a bid in the region of £2.5m for the attacker.

He tweeted: “Middlesbrough have made an offer to Mallorca for USMNT forward Matthew Hoppe, per sources. Offer is around $3m (including add-ons). Sunderland interested as well. Hoppe, 21, has six caps with the USMNT. Joined Mallorca last summer from Schalke.”

Forget about Nathan Broadhead

The Black Cats are said to be keen on a deal to bring Nathan Broadhead back to the club from Everton after his loan spell on Wearside last term. However, nothing is imminent, and Hoppe has now emerged as a potential alternative to the Welshman.

In the 2021/22 campaign, the Toffees loanee caught the eye as he scored 10 goals in 22 League One outings for Sunderland. He proved that he fits how Alex Neil wants to play and that he can perform alongside the players currently at the Stadium of Light.

However, it remains to be seen how Broadhead would handle the step up to Championship football. He has only proven himself in the third tier of English football, and it would be a gamble to expect him to replicate his form at a higher level.

Conversely, Hoppe would be dropping down a tier to arrive at the Stadium of Light. He played in La Liga for Mallorca last term, albeit that he only featured in five games, and he was in the Bundesliga with Schalke 04 for the 2020/21 campaign before his move to Spain.

The American, who was once dubbed “complete” by Jacek Kulig, caught the eye in Germany as he found the net six times in 15 starts, whilst setting up one goal for his team-mates. He has shown that he can score goals in a major European league, which suggests that he has the quality to perform in the second tier in England.

Therefore, the 21-year-old dynamo has the potential to be a superb signing for Sunderland if Speakman can beat Middlesbrough to his signature. Fans will quickly forget all about Broadhead if Hoppe comes through the door and starts banging in the goals week in, week out in the Championship.
