Aston Villa: Fans react to pre-season games

Aston Villa shared details on how supporters can watch the club’s pre-season fixtures on Monday.

However, the update didn’t go down with some Villa fans, who vented their frustration on social media.

Villa take on Walsall, Stoke City, Nottingham Forest, Bristol City and Sevilla in the space of two-and-a-half weeks prior to their first game of the new season against Watford on August 14.

A single match pass for any of those games on Villa TV will cost £4.99 to watch, with fans also having the option to subscribe for 12 months of Villa TV for £34.99 or two months free with the pre-season friendlies for £19.99.

The club made no mention of tickets for the games, admitting that Villa TV is the only place where fans can watch live coverage of all five friendlies.

Villa fans react

Villa posted the news on their official Twitter page on Monday evening and here is what these Villa supporters had to say in reply, with one left ‘disappointed’ by the arrangement.

“Watch live coverage of all five pre-season matches, plus 12 months access to Premium content on VillaTV (normally £19.99) – £34.99… huh?”Credit: @villanmike73″I love Villa and everything they are doing. But £5 a match for pre season games is a bit of a joke, can’t lie. I’d understand if it was Premier League games not on the TV but pre season and the fact they used to stream it for free”Credit: @VillaVisionBen”Slightly disappointed that as a club we need to charge people to watch a pre-season friendly online.”Credit: @JohnHadley1984″no mention of being able to watch Sevilla live, joke.”Credit: @joegodwin_”35 smackers to hear Jack Woodward commentating over a dodgy and unrefined feed of Walsall players. Nice”Credit: @DOUGLASLUlZ”Amazing how quickly everything gets a price slapped on it in football! It’s not like we give you our money in ticket sales (£500+), replica kits (£150+) & training wear (£100+) every single year, you now have to charge us for the 1 free thing we used to get from the club”Credit: @KingEightyOne

'Things are reaching fever pitch' says Blackie ahead of Ashes Test in Adelaide

With the Ashes action switching to Adelaide, Somerset all rounder Ian Blackwell who is in Australia with the England Academy finds himself in the thick of things

SOMERSET19-Nov-2002With the Ashes action switching to Adelaide, Somerset all rounder Ian Blackwell who is in Australia with the England Academy finds himself in the thick of things.`Blackie’ told me: "The second Test is here and things are reaching fever pitch. The press are predicting another easy victory for Australia and are debating who should play either Lee or Bichel!"Before the Test gets underway `Blackie’ will be linking up with his Somerset team mates who are in the England squad. He continued: "We are actually netting with the test squad tomorrow so I will be meeting up with Caddy and Banger for the first time then."Regarding his own progress at the Academy he told me: "Things have been going OK for me. I rolled my ankle and was out of action for a couple of days but thankfully I am back to it now. We have been practicing different drills, using feet to spinners and also practicing playing the short ball!"He continued: "I’m into my last week at the Academy and then I join the one day squad next Tuesday. It’s quite fortunate for me because the one day squad are based in Adelaide for the first week and will play games against the Academy on the 2nd and 3rd of December."He went on: "Looking forward to things kicking off, these five weeks at the Academy have been enjoyable and hard but I need to start playing again. I have been practicing hard at my spin with the former Aussie Test star Ashley Mallet and I feel things have improved quite a lot and I am keen to put this intopractice."`Blackie’ concluded: " We travel to Sydney on December 3rd for about 5 days and then go to Canberra for a while. From there we travel all over the place and kick off the one day series on December 13th against Australia in Sydney."

Interesting Championship round in store

Round two of the State Championship gets underway tomorrow and the rampaging Canterbury side will be looking to put a significant performance together against Northern Districts to get their season off to the perfect start

Lynn McConnell04-Dec-2002Round two of the State Championship gets underway tomorrow and the rampaging Canterbury side will be looking to put a significant performance together against Northern Districts to get their season off to the perfect start. Both sides will suffer when the national side is chosen, and points gained at this early stage of the summer when the sides are at close to full strength could come in very handy further down the line. But there are other reasons for Canterbury to want to do well.All-rounder Chris Cairns goes into the match on 599 first-class wickets, Chris Harris will be playing his 100th first-class match and wicket-keeper Gareth Hopkins who is on 98 first-class dismissals.More importantly though is the quality time available to players who are prospective Test candidates for the New Zealand team to be named at the weekend. With that in mind Daryl Tuffey will be looking for a similar sort of return for Northern Districts that he had at the Village Green last year. That was the effort that saw him recalled to the Test team, with such outstanding effect in New Zealand’s victory over England at Eden Park.Should Ian Butler pass the fitness test he has to do before the match, it will be an important trial for him to show he is ready to be considered for Test play.Daniel Vettori will be looking too, to get more overs under his belt, the more the merrier probably.Equally, Chris Martin and Shane Bond will be wanting to have plenty of bowling too.In many ways this game is perfectly placed coming as it does before the Test. Two strong teams doing battle on what is expected to be a good pitch at Rangiora, should make for a tight contest. The other match of the round, between Auckland and Wellington at Eden Park’s outer oval, should be an equally absorbing contest. The home team’s batting, especially the top order, will be well tested by the highly impressive Wellington attack which did so well against Central Districts in the first round.Another good performance by left-armer James Franklin could make Test considerations very interesting while Mark Richardson, Lou Vincent and Matt Horne, all prospective Test batsmen will at least have the chance to work out against some top quality bowling. Then there’s the natural rivalry between these two sides to consider. It is shaping as one of the more intense rounds of the competition.

Pundit says Leeds won’t re-sign Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah

With Rodrigo failing to deliver the goods last season, Leeds might be in the market for another striker this summer.

However, former Sheffield United frontman Dean Windass doesn’t think that Eddie Nketiah will be on Marcelo Bielsa’s wish list for a second time.

The Arsenal youngster spent the first half of the 2019-2020 season on loan at the Elland Road outfit, and impressed for the Yorkshire outfit, scoring five times in less than 700 minutes of first-team action. Given that he did only play less than 700 minutes, rarely starting, it makes Football Insider’s report about a potential return a surprise.

Due to that lack of game time, he was recalled by Arsenal in that January and became a regular for Mikel Arteta’s team until the end of the campaign.

But the striker’s opportunities were extremely limited last term, making just four Premier League starts and played a mere 104 minutes in the league after Christmas.

With Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang clearly ahead of him in the Arsenal pecking order, the 22-year-old might have to look elsewhere to get regular game-time.

But Windass exclusively told Football FanCast that Leeds won’t be that club:

“I think he will stay at Arsenal. He’s seen it, tried and tested it, he did very well, but I think there’s better players than him, and I think Arteta will try and get him in his team next season.”

Fry drops Parker to Bournemouth verdict - Exclusive

Peterborough United Director of Football Barry Fry insists that Scott Parker will only join Bournemouth if he is convinced the club want to win promotion this season.

The Fulham boss has been heavily linked with a potential move to their Championship rivals following the Cottagers’ relegation to the second-tier.

The Daily Telegraph has reported that Parker is expected to leave Fulham this week and Bournemouth are subsequently set to approach him to become their new manager, with The Athletic reporting on Tuesday it looks likely to happen.

The report claims that the Cherries want a manager who is experienced at winning promotion to replace Jonathan Woodgate after the club failed in the play-offs this term.

Bournemouth finished sixth in the Championship and were beaten by Brentford in the semi-finals of the play-offs, losing 3-2 on aggregate, as the Bees went on to Wembley and beat Swansea City to seal their promotion.

Fry believes that Parker will only move if he knows he is going into a club with ambitions of automatic promotion, with the ex-Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United midfielder having guided Fulham into the Premier League in 2019/20 via the play-offs.

Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, Fry said: “Scott would want a club in the Championship that’s going to have a right go at going up. He wants to go up again.”

LFC fans hugely excited after Daka update

A number of Liverpool supporters are hugely excited after a report claimed the Reds are on the verge of signing striker Patson Daka this summer.

The summer transfer window promises to be a busy one at Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp working hard on perfecting his squad ahead of next season.

The 53-year-old will no doubt be keen to bringing in top-quality additions, but he will also be wanting to offload fringe players who are deemed surplus to requirements.

One player who Liverpool have been linked with before is Daka, who has been a sensation for RB Salzburg, scoring 68 goals in just 125 appearances for the Austrian side.

According to Fichajes, the Reds are set to make the 22-year-old their second addition of the summer, having already signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.
