Danny Welbeck will return to Old Trafford

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Danny Welbeck will return to Manchester United at the end of the season.

The 20-year-old striker is currently on loan at Sunderland and is in fine form, having scored four goals in his last three games.

Steve Bruce has publicly expressed his hope that Welbeck would be allowed to stay at the Stadium of Light on a permanent basis but this has now been scotched by Ferguson.

Speaking in the People, the United manager said: "He's doing brilliantly and he comes back to us at the end of his loan."

Ferguson is delighted with the way Welbeck is progressing having had limited opportunities at Old Trafford. He is particularly pleased with the way his strength has improved with regular first team action.
